Fault codes 2A2F and 2A2E

I am hoping someone can help with these fault codes. Initially though it was a bad connection to one of my plugs. They hadn't been changed since I've owned the vehicle, So changed them last week and engine management light was reset and my 1 hr drive back home was fine.
Unfortunately the next day the engine management light came back on but not straight away. It was my second short journey and I was sitting in traffic and it came on again.
My mechanic said it could be a couple of things. Initially he thought it might be one of the "O2" sensors? but unsure as his diagnostic machine would not give any more detail.
He has also said it might be the "Mass air flow" sensor?
There is also the possibility it might be the "danfoss motor" which was recently removed and reinstalled when changing the "valve cover" gasket.
Can anyone shed some light on this and help me?
Not sure which route to go down to solve this.
I have read a previous post on here with regards the code "2A2F" which said to check lower intake boot for holes/leaks as I did have a intermittent lean running issue.
Thanks in advance.

Engine running lean codes, check all rubber hoses and particuly the intake bellows after the Maf for holes and air leaks. A smoke test will pinpoint any leaks if you can't find them visually. These cars need a really good intact vacuum system, any leaks will result in high fuel trims and bad idle. Don't blame the Maf till you have eliminated air leaks. Since you have just changed the cam cover gasket, double check that for air leaks, if its plastic check it for cracks. Smoke test would show up any leaks in that area as well as the intake side.

Thanks for your reply....since posting this my mechanic has reset the engine managerment light a few times with same fault codes showing up. So he carefully cleaned the maf sensor and checked for air leaks.
Drove my car every day last week and no problems at all. If anythging maybe a bit more responive. Unforunately last Friday after a 25 mile drive to work, I parked up and let it idle for about 2 mins and the light came back on again! :headbang:

I drove all the way back home but no further issues. Strange thing is after it resting for a day when I stateed it rhis morning the light went out.
I went just a short journey and parked up and let it idle for 5mins and the light hasn't since come on.
I'm wondering now if i've wasted my money by ordering a new maf sensor from BMW.

:headbang: engine msnagement light back on again!! :headbang: same fault codes. Lasted 2 weeks since maf sensor changed.
Could it be something to do with the vanos motor?

2A2 codes are fuel mixture control related but split hoses and air leaks are uncommon on the N52. You need INPA or the equivalent to look at live data. It wouldn’t surprise me if it was the pre cat O2 sensor/s.

Thank you for your quick response 👍 I just hope its nothing too major. Like an aging wiring harness.
Luckily I have a good friend who has decent code readers as he runs his own recovery business. He can't however read live data.
Some other fault codes came up this time. He has reset them so its just a case now to see what happens in the next week or so.🤔

In Evesham, work in Warwick and willing to travel. I stand corrected on the "live data" thing. My mate said he can look at that data but isn't sure what he is looking at. I'm clutching at straws and know it's an old car..but I love it! Apart from these niggles it has been the best car I've ever owned!! On another note, some time ago I was trying to find the right seal for my vanos plug (see pic) not sure if this will affect anything, but a bit of a crap seal. vanosPlug.jpg

I didnt know that a Z4 had a centralheating valve motor ( Danfoss) - I do know that if the oill filler cap is not properly seated after taking the cover off - it gives a crap idle and warnings, cant remember which one but it was when I changed the VANOS's

For INPA live data, have a look here....

Engine management light again. I've cleared the faults but too lean fault codes again. (See pics).20200829_135548.jpg

Any help appreciated. Should I change o2 sensors next?

I have had a quick look at live data but a bit lost with it.
I'm wondering what voltage readings it should be?
Starting to think about paying for BMW to diagnose this.
:headbang:

Good explanation on viewing live data from exhaust sensors here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=npShfd7raoc

Another screen shot. No readings at all on oxygen sensors now!
