This is one of the colour's I'm looking at for my new Z but with it being a high gloss I'm concerned it will scratch easy when washing/polishing or show swirl marks

Any comments

Many thanks :)

I can answer the washing question very easily: Yes washing is a bad thing to do! How carefull you do it, it will get very fine scratches.

The clear coat is in my opinion too sensitive. Yesterday evening I was at the gas station filling up my car. This station has some kind of xenon lighting system, making the scratches quite good visible. In normal daylight condition it is hardly noticeable.

When I first saw the Z4 in DSB I thought it was much darker than what photos/images would suggest. I think as long as you adopt good washing practices it hopefully won't get too swirly. http://www.detailingworld.com is a great site with huge amounts of info on washing, polishing... etc. I recently gave mine a coat of Collinite 915 wax which is suppose to be one of the most durable waxes you can buy.

:)

Slightly off topic, I enquired recently about getting paint protection film over the whole car as I had seen lots of ads for Ventureshield and similar products. Quotes from a company who admit they are not the cheapest but claim to be the best?: £2,500 for complete coverage or £1,000 for the front end up to the doors and the mirrors or £500 for the nose (roughly to the wheel arches) and the mirrors. I expected the whole car to run into 4 figures but was mildly surprised it was quite that expensive. I got the sense that this is partly because they have not yet done a pattern for the E89 so there's a chance the quote might fall slightly with time.

£500 for the nose is interesting. When I collected my car there was a "pin head" sized stone chip on the front bumper just beside the passenger headlight, near the pop out washer. I know its there and whenever I see it I think it stands out like a sore thumb. I had wondered about purchasing a touch-up kit from here to try and disguise it a bit: http://www.cartouchuppaints.co.uk/index.php

Fortunately I don't do many motorway miles and so the car is unlikely so suffer many more stone chips. I think a bit of care is needed since its quite a dark colour though.

I really like it but I don't think I spend enough time on my car to keep it in pristine condition. It does look great though.

It's probably not worth it until unless you sustain a bit more damage but I can recommend those mobile guys who attend to minor damage (Chipsaway, Dentmaster and the like). I have experience of the paint-free dent removal guys (which I realise is not quite what you'd need) and was amazed at the result he achieved in only a matter of minutes. Chips and damage that requires paint is a slightly different challenge but I've no reason to suppose that those guys are not equally impressive. This type of minor damage is the reason I went for a non-metallic colour despite metallic being standard.

The sapphire black is the same!! Seems to mark easier than my old Blue Z4, and I though that was bad! The rear sides of the side skirts will need re-painting after the winter already at this rate!!! :o The front is starting to looking a bit pot marked also!

All of this is up close mind. If you just walked around it in daylight you probably wouldn't spot it!

It what comes of driving fast I guess! Mind you, I bought it to drive it, not look at it! :P

That's why 4 of my 5 BMW are silver, only 1 was dark blue. I want my next Z4 in Space Grey.
