Fancy a change in noise...

I've had my 3.0L roadster a couple of months now, and it had the sound generator fitted when I bought it, so I'm used to the grumble, as this feels like the standard noise to me. This is the problem, I'm used to it... I now want to tweak the exhaust note, maybe remove a centre silencer, weld in a straight pipe in its place, or remove a baffle or two from the back box?

No I'm not a boy racer, but I would like to try to fine tune the noise of the car, preferably without spending big £££££

Will adding soundproofing to the inside of the doors (to stop the tinny shutting sound) reduce the interior noise much? The doors sound cheap when closed

Any thoughts?

Paul

The doors have probably been designed for lightness. If they gave a nice "thud" when closed, everybody would moan about them being too heavy! :P

Some of the limited feedback from the inquiries that I made/found.

Hello chaps,
I had a Milltek 'cat-back' exhaust fitted to my 3.0 roadster. It has a fairly muted , bass-rich note at low revs, changing to a delicious howl at high revs. The only downer is, with the roof up in particular, it can drone somewhat when cruising at low revs. So it does inspire greater use of the gearbox. So, overall, it's great if you like driving in a sporty manner, but if you are more of a cruiser, you will find it annoying.

You're probably going to end up spending quite a bit and the end result still won't end up sounding as good as an M.

What you really need is this exhaust: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=icck_dUViIc&feature=related

Hey, its a straight six too :)

Not bad, but not quite as nice and raspy as this...

I want this car! 8)

I heard its because there's no sound proofing material pre-facelift, and the later cars had soundproofing...

LOL at I said I could be wrong!

Sounds plausible too.
