Fancy a change - Guiseley's new motor *updated with pics*

After being told by the mrs that I can't buy a Porsche, nor leave the forum, it seems you're stuck with me, and I'm turning to you for lots of unbiased opinions / advice. (and lots of help searching!)

Don't think I can justify buying new, so will be trawling classifieds, (but will try a 28), and fancy something 'top-end' with all the toys.

  • Needs to be auto - too much commuting through traffic for a manual.
After having a Champagne interior in my e86, I don't want a white interior (which seems to cancel out lots of the choice) and I'm yet to be convinced about Red.
Exterior would prefer red or blue, and am not allowed Grey.
Needs to have Nav, PDC and heated seats.
Would like heated steering wheel, lumbar support, uprated music.

Views on 35 v 35is too please.
No huge rush to buy, so opinions / offers of local test rides welcomed - I'm off to read through some brochures, and see what else I can't live without :paper:

p.s. Taz - If I promise to never open the roof can I stay in the coupe club?

Excellent - I love the way you imply all the negotiation that has gone on with Mrs G before posting. I can almost imagine the conversation(s)

Good luck

Nice one
I've been tempted to go for a test drive in the 2.8 but just had withering glances when mentioned to swmbo :(

i fancy a change to the 35is too... but with weddings and honeymoon, new bathroom and a house moving all coming up this summer a new car is well back on the back burner - prob for a couple of years till i can raise the capital again :(

I test drove a 35i last yr, and the dealer still sends me invites to try it/ buy it etc... really doesnt help :headbang:

Oh good luck

If you don't like the beige/white interior may I suggest looking at the walnut.

The 3.5is was lovely when I test drove one although I hope my experiences aren't typical of the car (roof broke on the prior driver's test so I had to go back. Then the indicators failed on me. That car was trying to tell me something :)

Price wise they seem very affordable now. Well specced cars for mid 20s on AUC when I looked

Good luck with the search!

cesela, thanks for the tips - 35is currently on BMW site circa £30k, but none in my fussy spec.(Won't tell that to the dealer when I test drive a couple though ;))

Stuart Truman, I've heard a few sob stories on e89 roofs - wish they did a coupe - less weight and more boot space :)

Taz x, pretty please!

a11y, :P (p.s. Steelers 8 Clan 4 over two legs!)

Bing, obviously had to start on a 911 or DB9 and be talked back to the 35is - made it sound like a bargain to run!

Off for more used car trawling - anyone know of a 35 forumite near Leeds?

I know of only two reports, in all the forums, where a roof has failed. One was a hydraulic fault, the other a microswitch. That's two whole reports in over 3 years, not bad. The other reports are usually because someones tampered with them (Smart Top etc). But if you don't want a car that you can put the roof down on, then you're looking at the wrong car!

There are some good deals to be had in the second hand market on e89s. Don't you still have 2 x coupes though G? Is the plan to ditch one or both of them?

:( (but I bet the Clan won any fights!)

Are running costs of 911s that much of a distraction?

No fights do can't say - worry about big bills is main concern (and Ruth not approving of them!)

Yep - trade in the sport keep the SE.

Can only find three 35is for sale at the moment - and one if those is in the Isle of Man - might need to be patient.

Have you considered a manual 35i M sport?

Nearly the same oomph as an iS but with a manual box?

I would disagree, that extra 70lbs of torque and DCT make a hell of a difference, hold out for IS
