Fan vibration (air con)

10 minutes ago I swapped in a replacement 2nd hand fan on my daughters 1 series. Once it started to vibrate it was as good as dead. 'New' unit runs silent. £180 new but picked one up for £30 plus P&P

I's suspect the Z4 is just the same and once it starts to vibrate or knock presumably due to out of balance fan elements hitting the housing it needs replacing.
 
I noticed that intermittently mine makes a knocking noise when I turn the ignition off (goes on for a few seconds after engine off). Strange thing is it makes no noise when car is on.....any ideas?
