I am a new Z4 owner, finally traded up from the Z3... day 3.... when you turn off the car the fan in the engine compartment runs for a bit.... even after short jaunts.... is this a problem? it is raining and about 55 degrees out so not hot...

cheers... pics soon

i believe this is normal i used to have this happen on a short 4 mile journey i took back and forth everyday - once the car got up to temp and you gave it some then stopped shortly after turned ignition off the fan would run fast for about a minute. It has something to do with short journey combined with putting your foot down! Thinking about it I don't make many short journeys where you can get speed up and have not heard the fan for a while at least a good couple of years! it had nothing to do with the weather or how hot it was.

hope this helps

thanks... you may have something there.. foot down, and so far short trips.... heading down the CA coast in a few weeks, will see how it goes...... many thanks

The coolant temperature of a warmed engine will actually rise for a while after shutting the engine off. This fan is responding to the coolant temperature sensor output and helps to reduce the temperature increase.
