Family Members Greatest Achievement

My Mom dated Frank Sinatra twice during WW2
He stopped in Newfoundland with the USO Tour on his way to Europe.
He played 2 shows and after he saw her in the line for autographs..
He sent one of his men to ask if she wanted to join him for dinner.
She accompanied him to the Officer's Mess for a banquet with all the Brass.
As she was "just a Corporal" she was denied entrance.
Mr. Sinatra responded
"If this place isn't good enough for my date, it's not good enough for me."
They left and went into St. Johns for dinner .

That is so cool! :)

Dad got the DFC for bringing home his Halifax and all the crew after it was badly shot up over Germany.
Only recently discovered Mum was a radio interceptor connected to Bletchley Park ! She never mentioned it.

My grandad was an observer on a Halifax , his plane was shot down in Germany and he was captured and taken to a POW camp. They were eventually rescued by the Americans, sadly too late for some of the crew. Unfortunately never got the chance to meet him.

Dad was official translator for Barcelona fc when they played Ipswich Town in late 70s. A couple of times they were drawn together in what was the UEFA cup back then. My brother and I spent 2 days with all the players while my dad translated press interviews etc. To be in the company of players like Cruyff and the like was mind blowing as a lad. Best memory was standing in the player's tunnel after the match and handed all the shirts as they Barcelona players as they headed back to the changing rooms. Still have them to this day. One of my prized possessions

My Grandfather a 19 year old Able Seaman was torpedoed by a U-Boat in the Atlantic on an Atlantic Convoy and drifted for over 14 days before making land fall in St Maartens in the Caribbean with other surviving crew members. The family story is that it took some time before news of his safety reached my Great Grand Mother back in Liverpool who was living with the sad news that her other son had been killed whilst on active service with the Royal Air Force over Belgium.

what for me is humbling about this achievement in my eyes is that this level of bravery was equalled by an entire generation- ordinary families (many of us on here) that have in their family history incredible stories of bravery that from a modern perspective are remarkable.
