false neutral?

hi all,

my cars done this quite a few times to me now and im not sure if its a problem or just me being an impatient idiot?!

if im sat at a busy roundabout and i want a quick get out in a gap, i tend to hold the revs and then dump the clutch when i see a gap, a bit like a rally start or launch control if you like. however sometimes when i do this the car seems to go into a false neutral and will move out onto the roundabout but then rather worryingly wont drive in 1st 2nd or 3rd i need to let the revs drop down and then select 1st and then drive away.

i used to do this on my old leon cupra tdi and never had any bother with it.... but it could just be something that im doing which is ill advisable im not sure ???

Never heard anything like it. The clutch is fully engaged but the car does not move???

Never heard of it either.

I could speculate that it's jumping out of gear and then the syncro won't allow you to put it in gear until the revs then drop.

Not sure there's a need to treat a car that is so quick off the mark this way just to pull out at island. Sounds like a recipe fro premature wear and failure on much of the drivetrain

Well put it this way; I don`t think it`s a problem mate.........

No, seriously bud, sounds like you are over-doing it on the clutch before you pull out, so it`s struggling to get the next gear when you ask for it quickly........?

Just pull out normally, as others have said, or at least ride the clutch a bit more if you have to, rather than just dumping it ? :driving:

You can release the clutch quickly, just do it smoothly and not a dump. Bet that CDV is having fits with that.

Not a diplomat then encee?!

TBH though that's what it sounds like. Other than that explanation it's not something I've heard of or experienced in Z4s.

.........err, no !

Can be sometimes LOL, but you gotta have a laugh....., and I`m sure the OP knows it`s in jest !

Is it the just clutch slipping?

Try driving at about 40mph in 5th gear, putting in the clutch and then dumping it with plenty of revs. Should engage with a jolt straight away without slipping. If it gradually engages or slips your clutch is knackered. :(

yeah i know its in jest, i suspected it was not advisable behaviour hence the question!

will try whats been recommended to see if there is a problem with the clutch.

thanks for the advice. :driving:
