False Low Oil Level Warning

I started my car while parked on a steep hillside. Drove down this hill to drop off some mail and then drove back up the hillside. I was only on a flat surface briefly during this several mile ride. Suddenly the Oil warning popped up indicating the oil was very low and I should stop as soon as possible. I knew this wasn't true, because the oil was recently changed. Sure enough when I got off the hillside, I turned the car off for a minute and then restarted it. It took several minute until the oil level indicated full. So, apparently the oil level indicator works based upon a weighted average. Since all my driving was on steep hill sides, the level sensor was getting nothing but low readings and thus based it calculations on these readings.

This is normal, it’s how it works. Stupid piece of engineering though, would much rather just have a dipstick!
