Falling E85 prices

The other one i used to get was "Poor Mans Porsche!" when I had my Boxsters.

PVR should get the same stick.... he only bought a 911 because he couldn't afford a 918... :P

Or Perry as he only bought an Alpina as he could not afford the M :P

Heavens forbid a young person owning the same car as me. Or wanting to modified it or do something i wouldn't do to my car!!!!

Yeah the prices are falling but that's what happens with most cars isn't it??

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I,
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

I'm talking wheels out at exaggerated angles and tyres dragging on the wheel arches MM  The Zeds getting to a price where such work is feasible.

Now performance enhancements - that's a whole different thing :D

Might not be the car Chavs like but there are increasing new forum members going for the lowered and modified look. Not my cup of tea but the Zed makes a good platform for such work.

I'm a new member and i'm considering the eibachs for mine, not for lowered or modified look (its only a 15mm drop over my m sport suspension anyway so nothing massive) but solely because members have reported they actually improve the ride over our pot hole laden roads. I think i'm correct in saying this is why alot of members (new and old) have gone down this route. Same reason I and many others have ditched the runflats.

High milers will always be cheaper but if they have been well maintained they can still be value for money. However the service book I have says if you wish to maintain car in good order above 100k then servicing should have been carried out much more regularly than BMW recommends - these service intervals should be regarded as the absolute maximum not the norm. As a fairly new Zed owner I would never consider a high miler myself simply because there are a lot of plastic parts/hoses around the engine and these are likely to need replacing at considerable cost. Whilst the engines are robust its the ancillaries which will let you down once you sail passed 100k.

See above Mack - I'm not talking lowering for performance - quite a common enhancement.

No criticism implied either - it just seems to me that as the Zed becomes more accessible price wise, it lends itself to different usage.

I'm hoping there'll still be the type of owner and forum member that buys the car to drive and is willing to travel to drive a great road or go on a hoon with other like minded members. . . .we shall see.

I do both, I've owned mine 3years and I've spent a fortune on it! It's sat on its arse and gets used for shows and road trips aswel as my daily duties.

The lowered car scene isn't anything to fear for z4 owners. Atleast we look after them still

Beetlegav, Just curious (and please forgive ignorance) is the lowered car scene just about creating an aesthetic, by lowering the car as much as possible? I assume it must mess with the handling. Its not for me as would be a pain to drive round the twisties of rural derbyshire (and i'm too old for that "look"), but you do see some incredibly looking modified (and as you say well looked after) cars lowered to within an inch of the floor.

I had a 53 plate z4 3.0 great car very good engine and silly economical i even found it better then my 2.0 tfsi tt i have now. If you looking for a tt they are a good car althougj i found the mk1 a little boring to drive especially compared to a bmw. The mk2 is much better but mk1 are still a nice car and remapped go very quick.

Chavs dont go for 2 seaters really but i know what you mean.

Join the tt forum if you buy a tt as some good ones come up that have most common faults sorted .

Lowered cars are purely for looks when they are slammed by that i mean nearly touching the floor.
They normally slow drivers as they cant go to fast as the ride will be a nightmare and the car would fall apart if it hits a pothole.
Road holding will only be good to a certain height then it could be effected due to the car jumping on a bend because no play on suspension. Then you can put grooves in the tyres where they run which is dangerous ect but thats slammed cars. The z4 is plenty low enough stock

I don't think you have worry much about zeds becoming chav cars, whatever that is. If by chav car you mean really tasteless mods, this is not just the preserve of cheaper motors there are plenty of people chrome wrapping new lambo's and sticking comically massive wheels on all manner of expensive machinery. As for prices bottoming out it won't be long before they turn around and steadily climb. As a rule today's high miler is tommorows scrapper, if you look on ebay it will be awash with zeds being broken up through high miles or accident damage. As more and more leave the road there becomes less choice and prices start going the other way. So if you like your zed keep it don't jump out of ownership just yet. As for s2000 prices climbing they will do there are so few of them really. I had a quick peek on piston heads and there is about 350 zeds and 48 s2000s. With regard to future prices my philosophy is where they have come from they can always go back to. For example if someone paid £25000 new that same car if somebody had a certain affinity with it and the condition was good could easily sell for £25000 as a 25 year old car.

The S2000 is a better car in terms of being a proper sports car, from what i've read. The Z4 is a nice everyday car that suits me (could do with more power though) but will never be the ultimate driving machine.

Ah brilliant - My car will be worth £25k and I'll only be 82

By then I might even have rolled over to 30k miles !
