Falken ZIEX ZE914 Tyres... Bad fit ?... Sorted !

Really interesting thread this. Just wanted to say thanks for posting - it's really quite eye opening how much difference there could be (and within the same brand as well!!)

Yeah, but they may need a bit of scrubbing on the M5 before we hit the Moors too hastily !
225/40's going on the front 255/40's on the back, all being well.

That's really good news they are to swap them over at no cost.

Great warming to others to avoid getting the 'wrong'' tyre fitted.

Good news , great result, so your not going for 255 35 on the rear,?

They were 225/40's that came off and the cars low enough as it is. An extra 5mm could make a difference (...as the wife tells me !)

Great news, really glad you got sorted and that Falken were so good about it - a company that cares, how rare these days! Could you pop some photos up when you've had them swapped please? The car I'm getting has run flats on which will no doubt be changed soon after it arrives and it would be nice to see the fresh Falkens fitted, the 453s will probably be my "Won't break the bank" choice going by the reviews of them on here

255/40 on the rear is incorrect for your model Z4 though. 255/35 is correct. It's also not 5mm difference, it's 5% of 255mm's.

Thats impressive customer service, hats off to Falken

To be fair Falken . Germany weren't that interested and maintained the 'they're within tolerance' stance.
It was Michel Dever Ltd who made the gesture , who seem to be the UK distributor.

As for 255/40's on the rear, that's what came off and all looked and worked fine. - I've kept it on the island so far !!!
My wheels aren't standard or staggered , so without trying all combinations and winding the local fitter up, I need to make an informed guess on what he's ordering in and go with it. I'll let you know tomorrow what I end up with !

ALL SORTED !

Ive been back and got a full set of Falken 453's fitted. 225/40/18's on the front and 255/40/18's on the back and all looks great.

The difference between the Falken 914's and the 453's on the front is incredible, bearing in mind they are the same size tyres, just different models.
I paid an extra £49 which was the difference between the cost of the 453's and 914's and they took the 914's off me despite me having done 1000 miles on them.

I'll put up some pics when I get chance, and after a little scrub off on the M5 , they were great on the recent Dartmoor/Exmoor run last weekend.

Well, that's a bit of good news, always cheering to hear of great service, be interested to see the new tyres compared to the old.

To the distributor - for service.
Fantastic to see that a company realises that it may be it's training of agents that may not be up to scratch, and rectifying the situation.
Either that or a couple of the reps cars need new boots, and this kills two birds with one stone......

Front: Falken 453 - 225/40/18 on the front (8.5j)

Sitting much more square from rim to road now

Rim protectors now come in to play which they didnt on the 914's

Both back & front look far more 'normal' now. I could have gone slightly wider on the front to suit the rims, but being lowered I was worried about space within the wheelarch liner. Back looks great now with the 255's on.

I'm glad you got this sorted.

I used to use the dealer at Michel Dever back in the 90's. They were great on price and great on service. I used to drive down from Rugby they were that good. Glad to see they remain so.
