Falken or Vred

Morning all,

I've got a nail in one of my rear runflats and it's not holding pressure very well so I've decided to use it as an excuse to ditch the RFs for something more rewarding to drive. I'm stuck between Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta and the Falken FK-453 :headbang:

My local tyre shop (Falken dealer) can do the Falkens for £478 or the Vreds for £516 (2x 225/40/18 & 2x 255/35/18) which both seem pretty good value.

Staying under the £500 barrier is winning at the moment. Has anyone driven both?

Also, if you ditched the runflats did you get a compressor and sealant kit, or do you just accept that if you puncture you have to call someone out?

Cheers, and apologies for an other tyre thread.

£516 for all 4 fitted is well worth the bit extra for the Vreds IMO
Yes get a tyre sealant kit , a proper one though not just a can of Holts weld which is 100% not fit for purpose
You will be a happy Zedder when the RF's have gone

I went with falkens as they were more readily available.

Haven't noticed a massively improved ride. Although I went from 16" RTF to 18" non.

I have noticed a lot led tram lining though!

Thanks guys, I think the Vreds have won out as they're tried and tested. It sounds like they're excellent in the dry, good in the wet and awful in the snow. We're long overdue some decent weather so I'll take my chances.

I considered the Goodyear F1 but I can't find a good price for them.

Is something like this all I need to do the same job as a runflat?

Sorry to hijack the tread but with no run flats what tyre sealant do people recommend? As I know from experience that the hoots stuff is rubbish

Yep that's the kit i carry

Always had 452s until I got my ///M which had Vreds on and WOW. To me they are night and day better than Falkens especially in the wet!

I'm a Vreds fan, I had them on my last car.

They are quite soft for UHP tyres, and therefore last long and give a feeling of improved ride. Very good at pumping water aside in the wet.

The only drawback is the grip in sharp corners, a bit worse than in the case of hard UHPs, such as Dunlop Sport Maxx.

I'm well into my second full set of Falkens. No complaints when you balance price and performance.

Get a notability kit off eBay. Much better than aerosol cans and has the benefit of a decent air pump too.

Camskill: Vredestein Sessanta

2 X 225/40/18 = £178.40
2 x 255/35/18 = £244.00

So £422.40 + delivery, £11.96

So all 4 delivered for £434.36!!

Vreds for me are an excellent tyre, tried many versions/sizes of them over th yrs,and found every 1 had great wet and dry grip, and good mileage from them

+1.

About to do mine and going for them again............

I've got 235s and 265s and a full set from Tyremen came in at £624. Anyone seen them cheaper?

Cheers for the replies all, just got back from the garage after changing the rears for Ultrac Sessanta's. It was probably just my imagination but the ride feels better straight away. Ordered a Conti Comfort Kit too.

Unfortunately I've still got a lot of tread on the fronts so couldn't justify replacing them as well. Can't wait to have 4 non runflats on there!

I always thought it was a bit dodgy to mix rf with non rf? Even if it is front and back?

Really? I'd be interested to hear why, as I'll switch the fronts if it compromises the handling. I'm doing about 500 miles up the M1 this weekend so look out for me in a ditch off the hard shoulder

I keep thinking about Vreds for when I go non run flat but they all show as 'C' in wet grip compared to the likes of Pirelli and Dunlop etc who show as 'A' rated?
