Fake headlights?

Just realized something the other day while getting some electrical work done on the car.
On my coupe headlights, the outside lamps act as both low and high beams and the corona rings are not connected to any bulb. I cant light them up separately. Inside lamps are dummy and only corona rings function - they are the DRLs.

Is this some known stupid issue or my headlights are after market or something? Kinda silly this, with half headlight being pointless. I thought low beams ourside, high beams inside. like on my e90. And corona rings light up. but in this case .... its not the case. what the heck?

Its more aesthetically... and allows them to preserve the light size/ arrangement.. would be strange if there was just a blank space there - and a single projector with a halo :?

Also allows BMW to share some of the parts of the halogen lights - cost saving and all that

so the takeaway if i want both angel lights running - forget it. kinda wanted those coronas on.

I have a pre-facelift with 'bi-xenon' lights. The outer lights are white xenons but the inner are a yellowish halogen bulb. There's also a separate sidelight incorporated. If the outer is the high & low xenon what's the inner halogen for?

I presume I can update the inner lights with one of those white xenon type bulbs.

On the facelift the inner light is the flash to pass... while the facelift its one and the same, for low, high and flash to pass - there is some sort of shutter which opens/ closes to make the light dipped/ high.
