Fair shout on the brake advisory - Calliper sticking

Good news the Zed passed it's MOT again, but with an advisory for front brake balance which I was not expecting as it had new pads and discs last year. I got a bit of a shock when I stripped down the callipers, the drivers side unit was rotten with corrosion and the piston was obviously sticking, the other was fine. It's not been on salted roads but I'm wondering if I'de got some nasty wheel cleaner in there ?

I've rebuilt callipers before but this was beyond it, and as a refurb kit with piston etc was going to be close to the cost of a shiney refurbished unit, so I went for a pair from http://www.brakesint.co.uk/ at about £50 per side delivered.

Anyway I swapped them over yesterday with no problems other than the rubbish power bleeder I bought which leaked horribly and plain didn't work - seriously don't waste money on this particular Sealey unit which runs off spare tyre pressure at 20psi. But all was sorted in the end and I had a terrific nocturnal hoon around Somerset with a roofless run down the Cheddar Gorge to test the brakes - all is good again :driving:

New ones look good. Surprised if the old one was even working, did the piston still slide? Looks like it came off the Titanic :D

May have to get some new Calipers as well.
Do they come with new bleed nipples?
If not, did you have problems getting your ones out?
Do they supply a returns label for the old ones or do you have to pay the postage yourself?

Cheers

So what is in the box? Caliper, seals, piston, bleed nipple? The whole shabang?

Thanks

At £50 a caliper it could be a good source for upgrading to the larger E46 330 brakes :driving:

Actually, after pricing up all of the parts for 330 brakes for the front, including discs and pads, its £476 + P&P :o

But Andy....

I'm thinking it might be a good way to get some new, clean calipers, have them powder coated, then fitted = better than japlac, long lasting and a brake refurb included :D

Ahhhhhh :)

Weird one calliper was fine, the corroded calliper was working and passed the MOT with just an advisory on balance, so imagine my surprise when I saw the state of it! It wasn't like that in the autumn. I'm blaming myself for using some harsh wheel cleaner which I must have got in there and not flushed out - expensive mistake :headbang:

The refurbished calliper came fully built with piston, seals, nipples, slide pins and inserts, just fit, bleed and go. Then box and send your old units for a refund of the deposit, I used http://www.collectplus.co.uk/ at about £6.99.

The only moment I had was the release of a tiny dribble of fluid from a piston on first application during bleeding. Having cussed and removed it to see what was happening I realised it was just the fluid used to fit the seals & pistons being pushed out from the rubber surround - all was OK. I've given them a couple of good runs and are working nicely with the recent discs, Textar e-pads and new hoses.

If the other side goes, your baby's telling you she needs bigger anchors.

Used my dodgy piston as an excuse to upsize to 325mm rotors, same as 3.0si spec off an E46, definitely worth it

Maybe next time, I did the pair just to keep things neat :)
