Buying a 2012 Z4 35i with 32k miles. 2 owner Lease car then private owner, with impeccable car fax. Looks mint
White on red interior, automatic.. I have seen a huge range of prices. What's fair?

Thx, Rob

£18k from bmw approved used (50k miles) but you get a lot of checks & the good warranty.

Something around £14k from a private seller might be the right ballpark.

All blind without a link.

What are they asking? Do you think it is reasonable?

You mention carfax, so I’m guessing USA?

Give us some more info & we might be able to help you.

It's US dollars..$24,900 with M Sport package. Don't have link. It is not covered under warranty due to age being 11 years old 2012. But extremely clean.

$25k is a reasonable for a USA car with 32K. Have a mechanic that you choose take a look at the suspension (strut leaks, slack or movement), brakes, exhaust, fluids, plugs, pull the covers off to look for hidden stuff, examine the top /seals / trunk for water ingress or damage... look at the windshield to see if its OEM glass (it looks grey, not green as expected), etc. Get an ear on the turbos and exhaust sound. All that stuff can be fixed if you've fallen in love. If there's anything that needs to be resolved, get a quote and negotiate the difference with the seller.

Whatever you do ... don't buy it only with a retail "pep boys" inspection!

Nice car... welcome to our obsession.

Thank you! Im really excited. Wish it had the cold weather package but oh well, its the colors I wanted and super low miles. Now just gotta get a good protection plan on it..They put new brakes on it yesterday front and back, changed the oil and did a brake flush. New run flats were put on 6k miles ago. I think ill replace with normal tires when needed. I plan to bring it somewhere same day but figured I'm better off having a seperate mechanic look at it as a pre purchase inspection from the dealer I'm buying from is prob useless. Lol.

Dealers have no interest in finding problems, just turning over inventory in a slow economy. If you do get a 3rd party warranty on it, then ensure you have coverage for a twin turbo engine, fuel injectors, dual clutch etc. A lot of the 3rd party warranties will not cover this on a base contract.

Not up on US prices but the car looks good. Great colour combo. I’m assuming cold weather pack is heated seats?

Yeah, just no heated seats or wheel. Thanks I love the color. Car fax is perfect. So that's a start I guess. .lol

At that mileage you should have trouble free motoring. I didn’t realize you were from the US when you were on about after market warranties. Do you have Warranty Direct over there or is it a UK thing?

No I don't think I can get that warranty over here. I've been looking but it's like dealing with a car salesman. Seems like such a convoluted shady process full of loopholes and gotchas. Hopefully I'll find a good one.

Looks like what I would call ‘poverty spec’.

No heated seats / no parking beepers. Can’t see if it has cruise or heated wheel?

Does it have the nice speakers?

325M 18" standard wheels too. There are lot of blanked buttons in the centre console. At least it has i-Drive! :)
Nice colour combo though, and the mileage is very low!
OP; a comprehensive mechanical warranty of some description would be very wise on the 35i (N54 engine). The engines do have a habit of needing very expensive repairs. Low mileage is not necessarily a guarantee of trouble-free engines with the N54.

Here is the specs per VIN thru BMW

Looks like a well spec’d car for Southern California….if you live there who needs heated seats and yiu use valet parking

Nice color combo !

Well I'm in NY, but it's only gonna be my summer ride so I guess heated seats and wheel are just gonna have ro be for my GMC truck daily driver. Lol

I'm going to be resolving this on mine... I just painted the PDC sensors, and I'm ready to install when the task queue permits. ++Mr12volt ++ reverse and forward camera. In NYC he will be missing the heated seats -- they really extend the use of the car in the fall and spring in the Northeast.

There are lots out there TBH.

Personally I would wait & get one with a good bundle of the added extras - it's always something I regret after purchase when I have a lower specced car, and so expensive to refit after the fact (if even possible).

Heated seats / PDC / heated wheel / fancy alloys / iDrive / cruise control / LCI headlights (white angel eyes - not yellow) are all non-negotiables for me.

People who say the heated wheel is bollox have never had a car with a heated wheel :) I love it.

You have the budget for 2013 cars (post LCI), I would keep looking.

1 more week should do it.

FWIW I’d think in the US the number of 35i with heated steering wheels are quite low..

I had it in my 35is but ‘let it go’ when I had the steering wheel remodelled…personally I can live easily without it…adjusting the interior vents to direct warm air onto your hands is actually better IMHO..

However on a cold day the heated seats are fabulous..

LCI is not an issue as there were no specific changes at LCI time apart from minor plastic trim on the dashboard, the later side repeaters which can easily be retrofitted if fussed and LED DRLs which again you can achieve the same effect with LED bulbs instead of the halogen H7s.

By 2013 most of the systemic issues that were going to be fixed had..the many other issues carried on to the end of production.

Of all the options that can’t easily be fixed after the event the heated seats is the trickiest..

Deal is off! I had my local BMW dealer pull the VIN on his Service computer and he said it's been to BMW 4 times for serious stuff like pulled transmission out, leaking trans, electronic dampening module, sensors and so on. Service manager said it looked super shady and probably why the selling dealer was trying to sell "as is".... I think I just dodged a big bullet. So my search continues. Bummed but relieved
