Factory sat nav, is there an upgrade?

So I want to change the factory sat nav in my e86 coupe because it's dated, slow, bulky, the sat nav is useless, no Bluetooth audio streaming, no dab, screen resolution is crap etc etc!! I've looked online and can't find anything that's a nice swap. I don't particularly want to have a head unit with a motorised screen. I want to update the screen and software to something more current (like we see on beemers 2014+).

Has anyone experimented or does anyone know where to find what I'm after? I'd imagine it's something that crosses all z4 e85/86 owners minds so surprised I can't find any posts regarding it.

I thought about upgrading mine cos as u say its clunky and naff.
But theres few options. Theres a monster thread on here somewhere where someones swapped in an android tablet running apple car or whatever its called but tbh, it's a faff an a half!
So i boight a cd slot phone holder to use google maps on the phone for satnav and an mpow bt dock for the ipod prep so i can stream music. Cost me about 40 quid in total and works a treat.

Each to their own, but the nav is perfectly functional, especially running the latest software - of course it does not have the highest resolution or does Bluetooth streaming but then again, the Z4 is supposed to be a fun sports car, where this is maybe not among the highest on the list of priorities.

if you have iphone then i suggest getting an intravee + alpine 420 box, this will then stream music from your phone, the Intravee also adds more controls on lights, door locks and zoom in on sat nav. I have the latest sat nav 2017 dvd + speedcams. Other functions you could upgrade is add TV, them add reversing camera and raspberry PI with Kodi and teather to phone to stream all channels.

I have done the lot

I 'think' that's Markplant who did the swap.

Someone somewhere has swapped in the CIC or whatever it is from the F10 so it's possible - not cheap though!

As the Americans say.. "KISS" Keep It Simple, Stupid.....

Try and think of the problem you're trying to solve, namely, getting an up-to-date and modern, working Satnav system. You can create an Heath Robinson or just buy a TomTom with all latest gizmos for £60.

Simples

Mines in this thread
Yes it's a bit of a faff
But was done because it was something I wanted to try an in the case of mine it's easy to reverse back to stock

would not waste my time mate, sat nav in cars is only really good in the lastest high tech motors, even then waze or google maps will more than likely be better, use your blower.

Having a built-in is much nicer than an add-on or sticking your phone onto some gizmo stuck into your air vent or CD player. And it is a pity that BMW does not offer hardware upgrades - I believe Porsche do for their cars.

I would also avoid using any kind of streaming device in the car ... all you are doing is unnecessarily swamping your body and brain in radiation, which is 'locked' inside the vehicle and bounces around within the glass structure, with your body absorbing it. Absolutely pointless, when there are simple wired solutions that work so much better (and streaming audio quality is about the lowest of the lowest you can get in lossy mpeg compression, so it really is a cheap and nasty sounding solution for a high class car.

Obviously more functions and better resolution are nice.
But as far as resale value goes, I dont think potentional customers are lining up for bodged android tablets into factory screens.
If you're planning to keep the car forever this is of course no issue.
