Factory paint

How can you tell if its still factory paint ? I've found some marks in my paint which are under the clear coat small white dots in 3 places on the same side of the car all on the top of the front and rear wings .
Now before i go BMW i want to get my fact straight the paint looks perfect for colour in all lights no signs of over spray or wing removal ,spoke with last owner all ok to his knowledge before that the car was sold by BMW as a AUC did car check and Hpi all ok

Think you can use a paint thickness gauge to help? I'm not a detailing nut - my brother is and I'm sure he uses that when he looks at cars and can determine if a panel has been repainted.

This is the Mark its hard to tell if its a Mark in the clear coat or the paint

a paint depth gauge will do the trick.

from the picture it looks like bird lime (bird crap), could flat and polish the area, if that doesnt work it will probably need painting

Very much like bird crap on the clear coat.

Think a paint depth gauge is only going to show a respray over an old/original paint job. If the panel was replaced as well, it'll be harder to tell.

I wouldn't flame BMW for it, If it was a minor repair not done via insurance it won't show up and would be both HPI clear and AUC approved.

I would take it into the dealer and ask them to have a look. How old's the car? Maybe it would be covered by the paint warranty...

Definitely not bird crap the surface of the paint is very smooth it's either in or under the clear coat

it could still be bird crap, it could mean someone has already tried to polish out which would be the reason its smooth.

bird crap can still damage the paint under the lacquer
