Factory Bluetooth

I've read a lot of posts on here and gathered some great information surrounding Bluetooth.

I purchased my Z4 coupe (2008) a couple of months ago, listed as having Bluetooth. Everything also points to this (button in the centre console compartment, BT key in the manual), but I can't connect. After more searching, I have discovered images showing a 'Telephone' option on the sat nav screen, which mine doesn't show.

Is it possible to have the BT button in the compartment and not have the module fitted? Could it have been switched off and needs re-coding?

I started to pull the boot apart to remove the carpet, but only got so far and couldn't work out how to remove the sides. If someone can point me at good coupe guide, I'll have another go.

Thanks

If it makes you feel better, I've got one and it's rubbish even when working. Apparently I sound like I'm talking from a sewer down the other end of the line.

Facelift models are better, as the mic is on the steering cowl, not by the rear view mirror.

OP. Might be worth disconnecting the battery for 30 mins and seeing if the system resets. Check fuses etc...

Thanks. Anything is worth a shot! Though hearing mixed opinions on their worth.

By facelift, do you mean 2010 onwards? Or was there a facelift on the Z4C. Mine's a 58 plate.

Is there anything I need to look out for when disconnecting the battery? I mean software/computer wise.

Thanks.

Do you have the B/T connecting instructions with the car ,if not I can send you a pdf of original from a 2007 E85 which is the face lift version as should be a Coupe
(2009 was the E89 with metal folding roof ,new car not a facelift )
If you need a copy pm me with your email address

Thanks guys. I've tried this until I was blue in the face. It was only then that I searched further and noticed that the computer displayed 'Telephone' as a menu option. So I stopped trying.

Can anyone confirm the menu option is there all the time?

Same here, 58 plate coupe. and it's still wazz. (:

I don't have the Nav display in my 06' (facelift) but can I confirm it's probably not worth the trouble you're going through. When I was trying out my Bluetooth unit, it had an unreliable connection since it's much older Bluetooth technology and even with the mic on the steering column, the audio is pretty rough. Audio coming through the speakers for the other line is also sub-par and you'll be better off getting an inexpensive Bluetooth to Aux receiver, which will allow you to play music from your phone as well.

I guess the only real advantage of the factory Bluetooth is that you can access your contacts etc from the steering wheel controls. Rubbish that you can’t stream music through it though.

In my case I had to sort it as the broken wires were shorting out and blowing fuses.

Yeah, though you can still control volume through the controls. For contacts and calling I just use Google Assistant (or whichever voice assistant your device has) which works pretty well even with the top down depending where your device is mounted. I attach my phone to a very small unobtrusive magnetic mount on the center fans.

If you're on Android, check out the Android Auto app. It makes these things a lot easier for when you're driving.
