Facelift xenons on prefacelift?

Are the 2007 xenons compatible with a 2004 halogen car? What issues if any are there in changing them over? Is it possible?

Those 2007 xenons dont fit a pre 2005 car with xenons without some modification to the wiring so I'd assume theres a fair bit of work to be done to convert a pre 2005 halogen car to 2007 spec xenons. Although I'm sure someone will be along shortly to give you the definitive answer.

honestly just buy some aftermarket hids. Ive bought literally several from this guy (for different cars):

Your bulb should be an H7, and I'd get either 4300k or 5000k for the most oem look (and brightest). They're plug and play so you literally plug the ballasts into the bmw harness, then plug the hid into the ballasts, mount the ballasts and bulbs and go. At $150 its well worth it, if you have something go bad he will replace (had this happen once) and his warranty lasts. Like I said I've bought several and been very happy. No need to pay a ton of money for the oem.

If you must go to xenon from halogen using OEM then a set of clear lens pre facelift would be better (around 2005 vintage). They are a straight fit and just need the LCM unit programming to accept the xenon. Withouth the programming then odd lights come on. I know as I've done a set with a forum member.

woooah, i'm confused... i have a 2003 with xenon but crappy amber indicators... if I buy 2007 xenons with clear turn signals, would this be a straight swap no unit programming or messing about? I'm thinking of digging deep to pay the approx £1000

No, they would not work without programming.

Let me clarify- Early lights had amber indicators, then around 2005 pre facelift they changed to a clear lens. At the point of facelift they changed the internal design of the wiring and light and they will not work.

On a prefacelift you therefore need prefacelift xenon which are a direct plug in

It's closer to £1500 though, which surely can't be worth it :idunno:

How would I tell if the one's i'm going to buy are 2005 pre facelift clears or 2007 which would need re-programming? They'd be from a breakers parts company and they probably don't know what it came off. Would the programming be hassle/expensive.

i'll say again... just get H7 kit with some wiring harness

$60 shipped all day long.

I didn't need a reprogram and HID worked

my setup.
-Bi-xenon projectors
-D2S 4300k Bulb
-D2S to Aftermarket Ballast Harness
-Aftermarket Ballast

have both regular High beam and High beam Bi-xenon shutter :) SOO BRIGHT

BlackSapphireZ, its illegal to do it in the UK, which doesn't stop a lot of people doing stuff, but cause an accident where someone else is seriously injured because of your illegal lights and you'll be in big trouble.

ooooooh niiiice :)

Maybe worth the reprogramming then...

Well - 'yes' and 'no', people who have done it say never again, due to the hassle of finding someone to reprogramme and possible the need for a new LCM, and having chopped a few up I can tell you that the AE are nothing more than a backlit plastic ring with a 5w bulb in.

hmmmmm :? :?

Well actually I've found a pair on eBay for just under a grand, so not the 1500 like others have found before. It does make the world of difference to the looks but I don't want loads of hassle in fitting them. Do you have any details on what exactly needs to be done, eg cutting wires, reprogramming, fitting new modules etc... Its hard to find them second hand and most seem to be 2007+

On another note, I went into BMW today and asked for a price on the 2005 clear style rear lights and was told they've been discontinued and non manufactured and no more in stock

Yes - I've seen them on Ebay a few days ago, but tend not to post as that alerts other users to their existence and there are already 2 declined offers.

They are a good price Vs the total approx. £2k for OEM, but frankly still a lot to pay.

They look like facelifts to me and coming off a 2007 would confirm that.

I've never done the wiring on those so you're on your own unless someone posts that has done it.
