facelift spec changes

Hi guys
As a newbie I'm still at the stage of gathering info on the cars so I know what I'm looking for/at before buying. I've been looking at 2.0i (or maybe 2.5i) facelift E85 models, but there are one or two nice late pre-facelift cars about.
Apart from the obvious external differences of the lights, what's the difference between them - if anything?

Cheers

post edited as I now know the E86 is the coupe and not a facelifted E85 !

E85 is the roadster
E86 is the coupe,
The coupes are all facelift,
The roadster is pre and post facelift
All m cars are post facelift

Thanks for the fast responses.
My error, I thought the E86 was the facelifted E85 - never considered the coupe. Sadly, I'm not in the market for a 3.0, it'll have to be a 2.0 or just maybe a 2.5i.

cheers

One thing to be clear on with face lift cars are the engine combinations vers trim level.

Don’t get confused with any car with “Si” badge on the side. That just refers to the engine spec. All models can be specified in either SE or Sport trim.

So I've now discovered that facelift E85 cars are less likely to suffer from sticky steering than earlier cars. Anything else that is 'improved' following the facelift?

Hi,

I have a 2.0 that I am thinking about selling. What is your budget?

It had 4 brand new PS4s’s fitted last week, it’s had a new timing chain and guides, new brake pads and discs last week and new brake lines. FSH and always has the best of everything :)

Oh, and new anti roll bar bushes and drop links all round last month.

There's other things, some are model specific such as the post facelift 3.0 cars have larger front brakes than the pre version. But as your not looking at 3.0 that's irrelevant to you.
Things I can think of off that apply to the models your interested in not covered in the link I posted off the top of my head,
Door sound deadening, basically all post cars have it and all pre cars dont. It's an easy fix (info's on here) with materials at circa £20. It makes the car a little quieter obviously but it also makes the lightweight doors sound like a bmw when they shut rather than a 80s peugeot! They're not quite that bad but you get the picture.
Black instead of grey plastic , this is actually a 2005 model year change rather than post facelift but does look much better to my eyes.
The post cars use the n series engines which are a bit more powerful and fuel efficient than the earlier m series equivalents but do tend to be a little more problematic, particularly the 2.0.
Then theres subtle changes, the 3 flash tap of indicator on the post facelift for example
Chrome accents to the heater vents and heater controls
Can't really think of too much else to be honest

Thanks Mack - that's just the sort of thing I was after. Facts that only someone who knows the cars can tell you. Cheers.

Hi Synthedup - nice looking car. I'm really thinking of an SE as the roads around my way are just shocking and getting worse and I want to keep my fillings! I guess yours is a Sport? Also, having had experience of heated seats in a couple of soft tops before, it's now a must have. Otherwise I'd have been interested, at the right price...
But if you've just spent all that money why sell now, with spring coming?

It it actually a SE, although I added the sports wheel and piano black/carbon leather dash. plus ZHP and leather handbrake handle.

The coil-overs are adjustable to dampening can be set nice and soft :)

Iv had her 6 years now and keep fancying a Porsche.

I do still love the Zed but a change maybe nice. :driving:

I don't think my facelift '08 does this :?

The 2.0i can be problematic as mentioned above, try get in to one of the 6 cylinder models if you can OP they seem to be less prone to issues and also you get the lovely straight six sound track :)

OK synthedup, interest is slightly aroused. What's the age, mileage and your location?
And what rims are they - 18"? look like 19" :o
PM me if you prefer.
Cheers

M sport seats were much more common in facelift cars

It's just a codeable option, but I'm pretty sure it's not selected from the factory.

I think you are potentially exposed to a lot more fairly expensive issues with the 2.0l - timing chains and exhaust manifolds tend to be problematic. Option wise - heated M sport seats would be the only ones I would deem essential.
