Just seen the new facelift... And finally they have got rid of the fugly headlights!

It actually looks really good now... So much so that i'd prefer i m135 over the m235.

I especially like the new rear... Looks like a mini 5/ 6 series with the L shape profile.

Too bad i have already ordered a new car as i could see myself getting one of these instead!

Love the new front end,

I was close to doing a deal on a M135i before i got my zed, i wasnt that impressed with the styling which is the main reason i didnt go ahead with it the wheels also let it down IMO.

I will be interested to see how it drives compared to the M235i and see what it looks like in the flesh in a few months, but i could possibly see me jumping into one in the not so distant future :)

I find it really interesting that most car enthusiasts prefer the LCI but so far every joe public who looked at the LCI thought it was awful!

The current Mrs Stratts has an F20 and it's not the prettiest car. The facelift is a marked improvement, and some of the standard equipment has been improved as well.

Unfortunately, the badge changes make it a bit confusing (118i is now the base model with the same power/engine as the old 116i) and the petrol engines aren't changing for a few months I understand, I think the car is due to get the 3cyl petrols from Mini at some stage...

We have the original 1 series on the drive and would have swapped to a newer version, but as others have said the lights were so frugly.

This looks like they have got it right again, so give them a year to filter to the second hand market and missCJ could well put one on the drive.

Looks really good. Fairly serious facelift too - not just the usual bumpers and lights, but a totally new rear hatch. Seems to be a smalle hatch too  , but a batter shape

The new M3 looks better than the M4 to my eyes. The changes to the saloon required to include the coupe's wider rear axle means a more dramatic change to the bodywork. The M4 and 4 series are almost the same width.

+1

I don't really rate the looks of the 4 series, the 3 series is much better looking IMO.
I do think the M2 will be a thing of beauty though :) I do love the look of the current 2 series.

Pretty much messed up the M135i IMHO

The front is far less aggressive and starting to look like a any other mundane hatch. Great thing about the F20 was its love it or loathe it styling, theres little to talk about now :(

Tim.

i used to have the prefacelift F20 120d... and to be honest i loved it... the interior was brilliant and felt quite nippy. The only thing i didnt like was the exterior styling... personally i think the interior quality was equal to the F30 3 series.. except didnt cost as much.

IMO i dont see the appeal in the 2 series at all.. especially from the rear.. it looks so incomplete in real life... that i would rather get a 3 series over it.

However there is something about the LCI F20 which i really like... the rear looks a bit golf like... which i can see does dilute its styling appeal.. but i like it that way... and the big fugly lights at the front were just hideous.. even in sport guise.

May have to make an inquiry at the dealer now - as the 116d looks very appealing... my hunt for a cheap practical second car may not be so cheap after all!

According to BMW.. Its 'ALL NEW' apparently.

Bullshit alert.

Yes it looks better but all they've really changed is the headlight internal design, they're still massive, the front and rear bumpers and the boot lid/tailgate. All done for max impact and minimum spend.

ALL NEW my arse.

BMW's own blurb:

The BMW 1 Series 5-door Sports Hatch’s distinctive new look is a result of some exquisitely redesigned details. The kidney grille, front and rear bumpers and tailgate have all been extensively reshaped to highlight the car’s sporty, dynamic character, while the headlights and two-part rear LED lights now boast the iconic look featured on every other BMW Series. The exhaust is larger and each of the three model types has its own individual style of alloy wheel. This is a car designed to set itself apart, even when standing still.
