facelift bi-xenon to pre-facelift z4 -working

I think this has been discussed a few times.. they are not a straight swap.

Halogens to facelift halogens are but Xenons require new looms/ recoding etc.

Would have though it would be better doing a CJ cut and shut on them

Thats what I thought but link shows it is possible. Will have a look this weekend

As far as I know it's a mission to fit facelift xenon to a car that wasn't spec'd with them originally. Makes the "dremel cut and shut job" look simple :(

Yes but I have xenons already so surely must be easier, even if I code the lcm to not check sidelight bulb error as the facelift have angle eyes

I think the problem is in the facelift you have bi-xenons, while on the pre the high beams are a separate light.

Even reading that link i dont think they managed to get it to work properly.

Are high beams tested as part of the MOT if not can you live without them? If so i guess they may work.

The sidelights should light the angel eyes so they probably would still work.

I looked into it briefly before realising the cut and shut is the only way to get them working properly. I didn't find one person online that had managed to do it and not being very good with wiring I left it at that.

No high beams are an MOT failure as this operates the flash to pass which I also believe is a failure.

It's best to scout about the scrap yards from some otherwise cheap halogen clears maybe with some lugs broken then cut them open for the clear boomerangs. Facelift xenons sell for too much (well, when I say sell I mean people expect too much as you rarely see them sell) and don't work.

right thought i would fire up laptop and run SSS retrofit, it states that you can add facelift headlights

I cannot continue as i haven't fitted them yet.

Also in the retrofit you can install facelift rear lights.....

Will try on the weekend to see if it works.

I would hazard a guess that the "retrofit package" referred to in that screen grab is not simply the facelift lights.

isn't there an option to get the 2005 lights if i'm correct they look the same as the facelift headlights but are made for the prefacelift

Yes they do exist, they were made for the 2005 models. However at my last check it was c.£750 EACH for the lights, and that price does not include ballast or igniter :o

Fark a doodle doo! :o

Couple of points:
2005 headlights are just prefacelift with clear indicator lenses, not facelift lights.

Both pre and post facelift xenon are bi-xenon. It simply means that both the dipped and main beam are xenon. In the prefacelift a shutter activates to cut off part of the beam to create a dipped pattern. It has a separate 'flash to pass' halogen in the inner unit. IIRC the post facelift uses the outer xenon as 'flash to pass' as the technology had advanced.

Issue is the wiring needs to be changed to the new bulb light configuration, lack of inner halogen, halo's, etc., which I'm sure has been done, but not personally tried it.

Huh! You learn something new every day. I thought my car was HID dipped beam and Halogen main beam

Yep
Turn your ignition on and switch on dipped beam, which is of course the xenons. Now pull the indicator stalk and you'll see the inner halogen flash on.
Next press the indicator stalk away to go to main beam and you'll hear the shutters click loudly and see the xenon now showing as main beam (plus the inner halogens are lit).

If you want to be fancy I could tell you the shutter actually drops DOWN to create the main xenon beam as the beam is inverted as it passes through the lens...
