Facelift 2.5i v 2.5si, how to tell the difference?

2.5i with a map will be close in terms of performance so don't be too put off if you can find a well specified 2.5i, which is what I did

:? i wouldn't imagine a map on a na 2.5i would add enough torque/ bhp to even notice :? bit like the difference between 95ron & 99ron , a little sharper on throttle , no significant power increase .

I had a quantum map on mine there a small difference in torque but your right its not a whole lot

I like the idea of the 2.2 as a "toe in the water" option, however if the running costs are similar and the capital's there for a larger-displacement model (which, given the apparent fact that these are right at the bottom of their depreciation curve could be recovered on resale) it seems there's not a lot to going for the smaller one.
There are relatively few 2.2 cars about and there isn’t a lot between them and 2.5 cars price wise. The 3.0 carries a significant premium. For me the 2.5 is the best market to fish in for a Z4 newbie. For sure if you enjoy the Z4 experience, you will probably want to trade up at some point, but that will give you an excuse to buy your second Z4.

At my last service, I fitted a sports air filter (not K&N) with foam filtration and did notice initially that car pulled away stronger than before . Will not have added to top end performance but being able to breathe easier seems to have made it more responsive.

hi all i think you'll fined that all 6 pot engines were made in Germany and shipped to the USA to be put in to the z4

I have a 2.5 facelift, think easiest way to check might be rear brakes. The 177bhp model seems to be the only one with solid rear discs I think. I@m refurbing some brakes from a 3.0si at present to do an update. If I can get a manifold and DISA valves down the link I might investigate whether I can find the other 40bhp with a remap. I think when it comes to z4's it's getting to the point where buying on condition is the best idea. I looked at ropey 2.5si and 3.0 before I bought mine. It wasn't the colour or engine I ideally wanted, but I've enjoyed every drive in it and slowly updating bits as I go.
