anyone got any experience of removing what appears to be nail varnish or hardened paint or glue from a fabric roof ? It's about a 20 pence size .

I've tried mild thinners
Brake cleaner
Foam carpet spray
Upholstery cleaner
Light scratching of the surface with a blade

Nothing seems to touch it, it only really came to light after a good clean of said roof after being purchase recently,, it's on the hard front section.......anyone got a fix for removing this ?

Ye gods man, mild thinners and brake cleaner

Really not sure, but a photo might help to see exactly what you are talking about

if you didn't notice it before a good clean, the roof had probably been dyed and you washed it off, post a picture

Thanks for all the helpful suggestions ! Lol

The car was bought for by someone else and I was just sorting out some issues with it .....detailing etc, I noticed this mark on the roof and thought I'd get rid of it, but it appears that it was covered up with something , dye or the like and now I've made it stand out more than it did. Sorry I don't have the car here at present but will get pictures sent . I'm certain it's not a repair but that is dried paint or varnish or glue etc .

I wonder if something has spilled on to the roof whilst it was garaged, or if it is as a result of a botched repair attempt

Is it hard or soft? If it's soft, I'd be tempted to try freezing it and then see if it will break up. Try a can of compressed air upside down, I've done this to get chewing gum out of carpets before and it's worked well.

Cheers MIck but it's hard not soft

Like all fabric's if you look really close at it there are lots of tiny fibres coming off the material , like a fur, and whatever has been put on here has flattened all the fibres and created a hardened area that has no such fur ,so somehow I need to get rid of the hardened area and rough up the fabric to restore the fibres/ fur ......if that make sense .

I'd try a steam cleaner on it - shouldn't damage the fabric and if it's something like chewing gum that's gone hard, the steam will soften it up so that you can use one of the commercial chewing gum removal products.

I'd think that you'll probably need to recoat it with waterproofer afterwards though

This is a good call....why didn't I think of that :headbang: .......not used an gum removal stuff before but the steamer could work here. Thanks for that, but keep um coming chaps please , another week till I see the car again .
