Fabric/leather mesh wind deflector

Hi all,

A quick question for those of you who have the strap-on fabric wind deflector option on your Z4.

I bought one from eBay which arrived today, but trying in it, it doesn't look right to me, and I can't figure out how it fixes on. For this reason I'm thinking I've been sent one for a different car.

From the pictures, there seems to be one strap on either side, with a keyhole-type hole on the bottom edge (one one each side).

Looking at the diagram on RealOEM:

it looks like there should be three straps on each side, and no loop/hook fastenings.

Can anyone tell me if I'm just not fitting it correctly, or if I've been sold the wrong one?

Many thanks,
Andy

PS: The eBay listing is here, with the description clearly stating it is for 2004-2009 model Z4's (mine's a 2005).

Actually, I think I've answered my own question. Looking more carefully at the picture of the item on eBay, it is a different deflector to the one that was sent to me. I'm hoping it was just an error on the seller's behalf, and should be able to sort it out fairly easily!

Cheers,
Andy

Hope you get it sorted as the one you have there does look like a double gimp mask (if there is such a thing)

Didn't realise this wind deflector was from BMW - assumed it was aftermarket.

(I have one - prefer the other type, but wasn't a deal breaker, and don't think its worth upgrading!)

yer i have the leather/mesh wind deflector and it looks much better then that thing they sent you. and there is definitely no holes in the Z4 deflector only straps!

I think you're right srhutch - looking at the diagram for the Z3 wind deflector on realoem, that looks much more like what I was sent.

Interesting that the eBay listing you mentioned features the exact same picture as the listing I bought from! I think my seller has just nicked the picture from another listing and not actually looked to see if what he was selling was the same.

Anyway, he replied back (in some confusion - he said it "definitely came from a Z4???") agreeing to take it back and refund me, so all should end well, albeit delaying me getting the correct wind deflector.

Cheers,
Andy

I'm sure in certain circles I could have resold it as that! However, I wouldn't know where to look for that sort of "community" ;)

I figured the cost of the proper fitted wind deflector over the fabric one wasn't really worth it (although I agree I prefer the look of the fixed one) - I can better use the cash on other things, like the Parrot MKI9200 I ordered last night :D

When I bought my Z4 I said to the dealer I wanted a wind deflector and they tried to parm me of with the bondage one FOC which I turned down.

That sort of stuff should stay in the bedroom.

good choice on the parrot! check out my signature if you get stuck installing it!

SRhutch - whats wrong with the leather kit? the fact it doubles as gimp wear is just an added bonus

It just looks like it's an after thought, the factory fir one is much better looking.

IMO of course.

I already did :)
Reading through it was what prompted me to decide to fit it - I pick it and the harnesses up from the post office tomorrow morning!
