Fabric guard

303 has my endorsement. I use their multi-surface cleaner for all interior cabin bits/pieces including the roof and Protectant for everything (including rubber mouldings) except the roof (on Fabric Guard).
 
I'd stick with specific roof products such as Ragtopp or the BMW protector and not risk a generic fabric product. I see no point in it for the sake of a few £'s on a very expensive roof...
 
Agree but 303 Fabric Guard is safe and used for canvas convertible tops ;) Many MX-5 owners use it without issues :)

Enough left to give it another coating this spring .
You can see at the edge of the roof where i brushed off the standing water with my hand

Speaking without any comprehensive knowledge but I imagine all these sealers contain the same magic ingredient - Silicone?? so you could probably use the 5 litre tins of brick water repellent from Wickes and it would do the same job at a fraction of the cost. Correct me if I am wrong

I never used the RaggTopp fabric protectant (I use the vinyl version) but it is also silicone free.

Not sure about others out there though although I think product info/specs should be easily available online.

Thinking about it I believe they are all silicon free since they did away with solvent base. I still bet they are all the same brick water repellent base.

You're entitled to your opinion, in mine it works superbly and is well worth the money - I've even waterproofed a pair of fabric shoes and a jacket with it and it just works...

Wonder if it would waterproof my terrier :D we've had some wet walks these hols :cry:

Quite possibly - I've applied it without gloves and ended up with my hands shedding water like a ducks arse.... :lol:

Luckily it's quite easy to remove from skin if done soon after - don't know what it would be like if left for several hours though....
 
I have used loads of different waterproofers over the years for for my fishing jacket trousers and boots and
G techniq is far better than fabsil and nixwax I have never used 303 so cant comment on that

have you not tried it on the roof?
 
Yes it works fine on the roof as well, I got a big bottle so I could do all my fishing gear as well, the Gtechniq is still as good as
the day I done my roof and waterproof clothing that was 8 months ago, I have found fabsil only lasted a few months on my
clothing then water would start to get through again and nixwax didn't last that long, you soon find out how good these so
called waterproofers are when your stood out in the rain all day and there has been enough of the wet stuff this year
