F82 M4 Coupe

I had a E92 M3 back in 2013 that I didn't get along with overall(relative low torque/a chunky kerbweight/max power at 8300rpm). So when the M4 came out I've wanted one ever since(far better brakes/lots of torque/more performance).

I've had it a couple of months now and I'm really smitten with it, it doesn't sound anywhere near as good as the V8 in the cabin though and the induction noise in the M3 was really addictive. But what you lose in sound you get back in performance because the M4 feels quick all over the revs. The performance has blown me away for sure. Just looking forward to getting to know it more now.

All I've done to it is change the front chrome grills to black gloss OEM ones.

Some pics. :)

Yeah that really is a stunning colour. I drove an e92 and M4 comp back to back at Donington, the difference in performance was unreal - and as you say although the m4 sound isn't as good as the v8, the noise is somewhat addictive! I hate to sound like a 17 year old but get some aftermarket airfilters fitted, you can hear all sorts of whooshes and flutters etc - that's really rather fun!

Congrats, really lovely car

Thanks very much both.

I've loved the colour(San Marino Blue) ever since I first saw it on a BMW M6. 8)

That looks great Lee. Finally I have seen a car with worse fuel consumption than my X5M, 0.1 miles and your tank is empty

Love the colour

Thanks a lot.

Beautiful car  My next door but one neighbour has an Orange one but yours looks much, much nicer in Blue
As much as I like the way it looks imho on start up/idling it sounds truly awful, flat and farty. Better as it moves off but not brilliant. Surely it sounds like it should when giving it some beans ? :?

I'm totally with you on the noise that it makes on start up/idling/low revs for sure. It does improve over 4k revs when the exhaust flaps open though, but the noise of this generation(and the current generation) certainly is a let down in terms of what has gone before(the N/A engined cars did sound much better I think) for certain.

Oh well. Just turn the radio up then eh ?

I do like the M4. Seriously looked at getting a cab recently, just couldn't justify the practicality for what I need as a main car.

My neighbours opposite have a competition cab M4. I think it sounds pretty good from cold tootling up the road.
Never cease to be impressed by the instantaneous gear change from the DCT aswell

Ideally I did want a manual, but there aren't all that many about so it does limit your choice a fair bit. I have been really impressed with the DCT up to yet though for sure.

I test drove a M4 Convertible back in 2016 and I did think that it sounded pretty decent with the roof down to be fair. 8)

Great looking car Lee , was out with a friend last weekend in his M4 , lovely motor :driving:
When the time comes to part with the RS the M4 is one of only 3 cars i would consider , the 981 Cayman & 991 911 being the other 2 .

I bet that your TTRS is an absolute flying machine for sure. 8) :driving:

Looks great Lee. Great colour! Glad your really chuffed with it!

Was there a reason for the M4 over the comp? Doesn't seem like a huge price gap and good low milage comps with carbon packs being around 35-40 they look great value for money.

Ive been thinking along the same lines as I have two dogs now and the Z4M just sits in the garage as we never leave the dogs behind. We could get away with having one on my partners knee with a seatbelt attachment as they are cockapoos. I don't have a lot of time to use it as a weekend car as we have a second house we spend most weekends traveling up and take the dogs... the Z4M has done 400 miles since November...

Been looking at an M3 for the convenience of 4 doors and really like the squat back of the saloon body. The noise on tick over is something that is also something to try and get over. What's it like as an experience? the big worry is that apart from planting your foot its a 3 series. The thing about the Z4M is that it feels special and has the sense of occasion, does the M4 still feel like that? I haven't driven one and probably need to.

Same on my list is a 991 as dads had one a couple of years and its just a fabulous car just incredible at everything and has 4 seats, but the dogs would ruin it getting in and out and would probably ruin the ownership experience for me :headbang: bit of a big price difference with decent ones being 50-60k.

Thanks so much Tom.

M4 or M4 Comp was a difficult one for me to be honest. I prefer the chrome exhaust tips on the M4 in comparison to the black ones on the Comp, and I just love a bit of Autosol polishing lol! I also personally prefer the wheel design of the 19's over the 20's on the Comp(however I didn't realise until after I got it that you can get the Comp with the 19" wheels though). I also had a difficult experience with the 20" wheels on the 640d I had(such a terrible ride) and I always said after that I would choose a smaller wheel if I have the option. I also believe that the boost is limited in the lower gears in the Comp and I'm happy to have a wilder ride in the M4 for some reason! :driving:

What I would've liked with the M4 Comp is the extra 19bhp and they also come with a sports exhaust as standard which I also find desirable. San Merino Blue was a must for me though and I spotted this one and just decided to go for it. I hope that gives you a little bit of insight into my decision making. :)

In terms of it feeling special that is always difficult because the M3/M4 are built to be very good all round cars so they are a compromise I reckon. However I'm really happy with it and I get a lot of satisfaction from just looking at it and the performance is awesome for sure.

Cheers.
