F1 ruined and a spoiler alert 🔔

I'll be watching (well, the free to air highlights on C4) and while I dont really agree with the new regs, it is racing at least. Yes nearly all other types of circuit racing is better (indycar, btcc, gtwc, elms, even f2) and most of those are available on YouTube, though not necessarily live.

Tbh, I think the electrification/hybrid stuff has no place in a series that should be pretty much a flat out sprint for 90ish minutes. Makes far more sense in endurance racing, where strategy around fuel stops and pit stops is a key part of the racing.

Still, will see what happens today.

True. I wish F1 focused on truly being the "pinnacle" it claims to be by having the fastest cars and making you feel like it's breaking physics. Like I'd much rather see Mercedes have made the W11 even more insane into the fastest possible car rather than have them trying to keep up with regulations.

If you want "proper" wheel to wheel racing, F1 has never been the spot for me; that's reserved for GT3, WEC, etc.

Just watched the race, (I won't give much away here). The first few laps with the interchange between the first two drivers, was really exciting and different. The new rules do seem to make the racing more equal. Still to early to say if I prefer it.

I am afraid that the days of Accelerate Hard, Brake Hard, Steer, Accelerate Hard, Brake Hard, Steer, are long gone.

The first few laps were good and I thought they may have found something here, but the tyres are the weak point again and are the main limit of the racing.

By half distance it's kinda gone back to how it was. Max did well from last.

Good to see at least one of the Cadillac's finish also the Audi's and they both beat teams that have been in F1 years.

My thoughts exactly

Overall, it was an entertaining race, but the rate of attrition through mechanical failure was disappointing. I hope that improves over the next few races as the engineers better understand how the powertrains behave under race conditions.

Purely just my own opinion F1 is knackered now, the cars look fabulous, the first half from a viewing perspective was exciting, but it’s the knowledge that it’s all somewhat artificial that spoils it, even without seeing the battery levels and cars are swapping places for a while, you just know it’s not down to pure driver and car excellence, they’re not pure racing, and that’s what spoils it for me.

Hey ho, it is what it is, first world problem for sure, but it’s still a mighty shame. ☹️

Pure racing is generally found when the cars are identical (like f2 and f3) or designed/limited to have identical performance (like gt3) then you really get good drivers moving forward, making the most of minute differences to gain an edge.

But f1 is a technology sport as much as the driving skill... build the fastest car and it doesn't really matter who drives it, they'll get a good result.

Just watched a video on YouTube about James Hunt with his son and others that new him. Probably the time I last watch F1, makes me remember how much more exiting it was.

I was open minded about the new era until i saw the Battery trace and regeneration on screen... it goes against every racing instinct that they have learnt from young. It will give you the swapping of places as the race showed in the first few laps... but, again this just adds more power to the boffins back at HQ. Out with the old and in with the new I guess... feel sorry for the drivers!

But if it had stayed like that everyone would be dead.
F1 is about technological advancement. At the minute the electrical thing isn’t where it should be. I think it’s more about the fuel advancement and engine tech. As Max said leave the electric side to Formula E as that their thing.

Regarding the electric / battery info shown on the on-screen graphics - I assume these are ‘guesstimates’ as I read somewhere that is was agreed by the teams that this information (state of charge) would not be shared as it would reveal their strategies.

So I’m not sure you can even believe what you are seeing!

Sounds like everything in the world these days with AI.
The graphics on screen with F1 is to appease the 'playstation generation' IMO. Utter bollox which isn't relevant.

The swapping of places at the front may have been good to watch, but must have been miserable for the drivers. You get some boost to overtake, but then you can't stay in front so you might as well just follow and overtake on the last corner - a bit like Moto GP3. :(

I hope that as teams and drivers get to understand more about how it works in race trim things will improve, but it was good to see 5 Brits in the top 10!
