F1 GP in Bahrain....?

Lot of nonsense going on in Bahrain at the moment and lots of political rhetoric around human rights violations etc. Today a Force India team car leaving the circuit became unwittingly embroiled in a demonstration which has resulted in two support team members requesting to return home (no body hurt) :(

So what do people think, should it go ahead or should it be cancelled?
 
If I was one of those team members, I wouldn't be too keen on heading out there. On that basis I don't think it should go ahead - but Bernie want's it his way only hence it goes ahead. He wont want to be the one refunding the promoters and media if the teams didn't show.
On the other hand... Brazil typically leads to theft of team equipment and then there's been some gun-point hold-ups in recent years (Button, then some other team's members). As a fan it would be a great shame if a track as good as Interlagos got dumped from the calendar. Bahrain is hardly an exciting track is it.

+1 completely.

Bernie is completely and utterly money-driven. I've read (not sure on amount of truth) that Bahrain pay a sh*tload more than any other venue/circuit to host a race, hence the reluctant of Bernie to cancel the race again. IIRC Bahrain's also either a major sponsor or heavily involved with one of the teams too, hence there's a whole conflict of interests going on.
 
I can only quote what i read in the Times yesterday, they did stress that there are human rights violations going on in that country and that holding F1 is giving the ruling family a thin vail of credibility and normality on the international stage, if this is so then Bernie Ecclestone should get is sorry ass and his money making machine out of Bahrain.
 
I suppose the real test is how many boycott the race by not attending in person, watching it on TV or online, or listening on the radio. I've lost patience with Bernie's travelling circus and no longer watch.
 
Everyone is happy to go to brazil to race, teams get held up and robbed every year there and even button nearly got car jacked and they all still go without complaint

I'm looking forward to this race

its a crap track anyway. should have ended it last season and i heard the other week they are taking spa off next season for the french GP :x

Used to watch f1, but now it's on sky I cant as don't have and refuse to pay stupid sky prices!! Shame but there you go :thumbsdown:
Much more fun taking my zed for a spin anyway :driving:
 
Whilst I have every sympathy for the Bahraini people fighting for simple freedoms the stench of hypocrisy is in the air over this Grand Prix. How many people have criticised the decision to hold a GP in China? A totalitarian state where people are oppressed every day, where people disappear, where more people are executed every day than in any other country in the world.

How many of you have holidayed in China?

I know Taz and I never suggested they did. It's the hypocritical media coverage and the general public's double standards that bothers me. Criticise Bahrain but ignore China. It's wrong.
 
The Arabic/muslim/whatever... countries always complain about western intervention and forcing our democratic ideals.

Let them all get on with it...

I will be watching the F1 this weekend without any other thoughts than a McLaren 1 : 2

Can't say anything bad about china, they are driving the world economy. Piss em off and we could all be in a world wide depression. For a long time.

Therein lies the answer. People have principles until it hits their pockets then they mysteriously forget all about them.

Probably covered above. But my tuppence worth says it should be cancelled. Risk is too high for drivers, race team staff, visitors etc.

A little civil unrest combined with a massive sporting event is a disaster waiting to happen :thumbsdown:
