F1 champ thread

I personally think it was a bit of a damp squib.
Norris wasn't the best driver for most of the season, nor was Pastry. Unfortunately, yet again, Verstappen was. If RB had sorted his car earlier he would had walked it.

Maclaren had the best car by miles for most of the season, yet Norris only won by 2 points and Pastry was third. Shows me that neither of them can hold a candle to Verstappen in driving ability (I don't like the dribbling Dutchman but he is an awesome talent).

The fact that Pastry overtook Norris so he finished in third in AD shows he is not even the best driver that Maclaren has. Just that Pastry had a head fart for enough of the season to throw it away.

Sorry but if we are talking about talent, Verstappen is head and shoulders above anyone else in the paddock at the moment and should have won the championship.

When Lewis had the best car he won by a Country mile. So did Verstappen. So did all the great drivers. Norris is not one of them IMO.
Rather alarmingly, I was writing a more succinct version of your thoughts as you were posting this…

I think the problem was that Oscar and Lando kept taking points off each other, as McLaren walked the Constructors Championship.

Max certainly can get a performance out of a sub-standard car, but he's a self-entitled arrogant tw*t. If he hadn't crashed into George Russell in Spain he would have won the title.

Next year could be interesting if as rumours suggest Mercedes do have the best PU. I know McLaren will use it too, but George beat Lando to the F2 title in 2018 so we may get another Brit win the title!

I would rather Russell than Norris TBH. At least George is only a 'fairly spoiled little rich kid' rather than a very spoiled one.

It's a shame that F1 continues to be "who can be the best driver out of the multi-millionaire's kids" rather than the best driver on the planet.
That is why I like Lewis so much; he had no family money. He got to where he is on pure talent and his family worked like dogs to pay for it.

When Norris said "it's been a 17 year battle to get here", he didn't mean he had to struggle financially. His family has enough money to almost own an F1 team! That reminds me; how's Lance Stroll getting on?

Same here! I only record the highlights of F1 on C4 to watch later in the evening and I saw the original thread title earlier in the afternoon. Cheers John! I purposely didn't have the radio on all day to avoid the result!
Shaddup Pondy, I’m not taking flak of someone who builds a fauxrarri out of plastic cos his dinky isn’t big enough….🫵😜

Hamfisted’s dad paid for everything…what difference is that to Norris…? Parents paid, kids made it to the top because they can drive, apart from Stropp of course…his daddy had to buy a team to keep junior in F1…🙈

Only just seen this thread. Happily watched the highlights first. :) Nice move and a worthy champion. Same again next year would be good.:driving:

I read something recently about Stroll junior - it seems he was a very capable driver in the junior formulas and beat several other current F1 drivers when they were all in equal machinery, Norris included.
However, I suspect it is thanks to daddy’s money that he has remained in F1 despite his form.

With Maclaren, they have two good and evenly matched drivers who both have performed well in a dominant team winning, seven races each, this compares to Red Bull racing who have one eight races all with Verstappen. When you have to battle every win against your teammate with the same equipment it is a lot harder to win, Verstappen has never had to do that. Both Piastri and Norris are worthy champions, however there can be only one winner

It mostly came down to confidence and experience. Like Russell, Lando seemed to lose a bit of composure under pressure, leading to mistakes—arguably the story of his season, even though he still scraped through. As a returning champion, he’ll inevitably come back tougher.

You could say the same about any driver. Even Verstappen has wobbles in his first title-winning season; once you clear that initial hurdle, the pressure eases—whether you win by 100 points or one, a championship is a championship.

That said, the new rules will shake everything up.
