F1 and Max Verstappen

Way too early to tell obvs but if these cars don’t improve how you have to coast into a corner rather than late brake as much as possible, coast and throttle round the corners to harvest lekky, have to monitor how much throttle is used on the straights to harvest etc, I reckon he’ll quit when he’s 30 in a couple of years.

He doesn't possess an ego, and if he’s not racing as it should be he’ll be gone, he’s a pure racer, not an egotistical me me me merchant.

The new cars look fabulous imo, but it’s really not in the spirit of F1 to have to coast and harvest, but I get the reason.

Meh, nothing stays the same, first world issues and all that….
Coasting into corners to harvest electricity is fair enough, but it's not Formula 1... they should save that rubbish for Formula Hybrid or whatever they want to call it. The only reason they don't branch off a Formula Hybrid is that nobody would watch it!

Formula 1 should be about teams competing to create the fastest cars possible and making racers race at the highest level.

I know…that’s exactly what I said….🧐

I can't help thinking the other drivers probably feel much the same. I'm not a big fan of Max, but fair play to him for standing up and saying it.

So it's already Formula Hybrid despite being called F1. :(

Thank goodness there is no hybrid element in Moto GP, WSBK or BSB yet!

I think to some extent F1 is a victim of its own success nowadays. For decades what wins on Sundays sells on Mondays and F1 has been at the pinnacle of engineering technology that filters down to car manufacturers so it’s natural that it’s come to this hybrid era, there’s been too much money to be made keeping F1 with a N/A engines and manual gearboxes which is a hell of a shame, personally I’d like to see them back with screaming V10’s and a manual shift but it’ll never happen again, only in historic series is it possible.

Do you or do you not buy increased global warming by mankind, science says it’s happening, F1 is doing a lot to develop future fuels and propulsion, it can’t go back, so it’ll carry on no matter what your opinion is. Either go with it or switch the TV off, your choice.

I think you'd need to go back to the era of Cosworth V8s to find a manual gearbox!

And F1 has been detached from the "what wins on Sunday sells on Monday" scenario for decades. By the 90s that only really applied to Touring Cars.

It's way off-topic but I'm not convinced about Global warming either. I accept it is happening but I'm not convinced that is due to the activity of mankind, even if that is the current agenda. After all the Ice Age ended, but not due to human activity! CO2 was the worst thing ever in the 2000s, until someone finally realised particulates were far more harmful.

Anyway it will be interesting to see which F1 team has risen to the challenge best and I hope it is as unpredictable as the last couple of seasons.

I’m not sure he’ll stay until he’s 30 if it’s as bad as suggested, but I agree completely. F1 should be about extracting the maximum from car, driver and team.

:rofl::rofl:

It hasn't been a good start to the season for him but I expect him to bounce back and fight for podiums. Red Bull will need to give him a competitive car to make it happen. I hope they can work on their car in the lengthy break after the Japanese GP.

I hope they can't!

Then we'll be able to enjoy watching him throw his toys out of the pram some more. :D
