Well Mercedes have definitely improved more than anyone else - stunning pair of laps from LH in Q3 and to be over 0.5sec faster than Rosberg really sets out his stall for the coming season

Nice to see Williams turning their promising pre-season into real-life qualifying performance, so let's hope their race pace is as good as it could be quite an interesting fight between Williams and Ferrari

Feel a bit sorry for Jenson though but, hopefully McLaren/Honda will sort out the issues over the next few races as they seem very bullish about the potential of the car once they have the bugs worked out

I think McLaren will privately be quite happy. They will be learning a lot and as long as they get a decent run tomorrow and plenty of laps it will have been a good weekend. I think they will have a good car by the end of the year.

Lewis looked on fire today.

Reliability or not, Hamilton will be unstoppable in terms of winning the WC again this year. Rosberg would have taken a huge mental knock by the qualifier times.

On another note, Alonso must be sick to his stomach watching the Ferrari advance up the field, could be the worst timing for a team move? And I wonder if JB is actually looking forward to his final F1 season with a ton a gearboxs ahead of him.

Team Mercedes have increased their superiority over the rest of the field, just watched Ron analyse theirs and everyone elses predicament this year against Mercedes, so why push their brand new engine to breaking point early on when they know they can't win. So develop slowly and surely and by the end of the year they will be much closer. I believe that they are nowhere near running the engine at it's full potential and the last thing they need is to suffer Ricciardo's fate and only have 3 engines for 20 races

As for Alonso, he left because of the potential to do better than his time at Ferrari, but he must be feeling wtf have I done, whilst banging his head on a table muttering stupid boy, stupid boy ......

Spot on Sars there's no way McLaren are running their engine on full power. That's why they are all so confident about the car. Regarding Alonso - not sure he'd be any better off still at Ferrari. At best he'd be third in the drivers championship and he's probably a bit fed up of that. He's made the kind of punt that Hamilton did when he went to Mercedes. He knew he wouldn't be challenging this year. It will be next year he'll have his eye on. Use this season to learn and develop.

Best be careful he doesn't guve himself concussion again...

Merc will romp it this season, as will Lewis (and rightly deserved I reckon). Ricardo second, Nico third, Vettle forth. McLaren will wind it up in the second half of the season.

A bit premature to judge Honda on this first qualifying. Remembering their achievements in the past, I'll give them more development time and be watching with interest.

Super confident Hamilton on the track - great to watch

:driving:

Massive performance from Hamilton.

All of the new guys acquitted themselves well. Ferrari much improved, Williams still in there.

Foregone conclusion for winning team, and probably winning driver, but will be interesting as to who follows them home.

Lewis on fire again. In the right frame of mind, he's unstoppable. I just hope the has no distractions this season.

Lewis on top form, but how about the Toro Rosso drivers, aka kiddie club?!

Nice to see Seb Vettel looking happy again too.

Omg
Any concerns about the 'yoof' has just disintegrated. They know their stiff me thinks :driving:
I reckon they've just invented PS5 (XB2)
Brilliant race with Sky on board

Yeah, that was pretty dull! Well done Felipe Nasr though - and well done Arnie for a hilarious podium interview.

I'm glad McLaren finished the race, albeit with one car - interesting what JB was saying about having the legs on every team through the corners except the Mercs and Ferraris. They are in a failsafe power mode so I'm sure decent performance will come once they sort out their reliability issues.

Bloody 'ell Lewis - I wish you would stop wearing so much bling - those earrings are bad enough but that massive gold chain
