F06/F13 6 Series

I'm in the market for a replacement runaround after someone totalled my old 320d.

I've decided the F06/F13 6 series fits my needs but have no idea about them. I'm looking to spend under £15k which seems reasonable as there's AUC examples available at that pricepoint.

Are there any current or previous owners here with advice regarding spec or common faults to keep an eye out for? Also if there's any cars up for sale around the various BMW forums I'd much rather go that route than autotrader. I did try to find a 6 series forum but they are all vacant!

Had a 2012 F13 640d(2 years old at 15k miles) for almost 3 years and 70k miles and it was completely faultless in that time. Spec wise they are pretty decent as standard to be fair, but with any car the more options they have the better I reckon.

Faults wise the seat runners can rattle from time to time so that is worth listening out for. Plus the 20" wheels on the runflats are pretty punishing over broken tarmac/pot holes, so if I went for another I'd go 19" wheels and look for the Variable damper control(or whatever they call it).

As a car I loved the shape and the performance/economy mix was the best I've had. 40mpg for a 0 to 60 of 5.3 seconds...plus all the torque from the twin turbo engine when overtaking was great.

Gripes for me were the completely lifeless electric steering, the ride that I've mentioned and they feel quite big in car parks etc. I do recommend them highly though and I'd definitely have another.

The car park thing is something I thought about, I've driven the 5 series equivalent and found it manageable but I'm guessing the 6 has less visibility and a larger footprint.

I certainly want it to be as comfortable as possible so I'll take note on the 19" wheels. I'm pretty sure a 640d is what I want, the 650i is very tempting and there's a nice example for £17k on AT but the 20mpg means I'd be filling it up constantly.

I don't like electric steering, in the E89 it's ok but I'd certainly prefer hydraulic but it's not even an option on newer cars.
