F**KED DISA VALVE

Hi all i noticed a rattling noise last week and found the thread on here about the disa valve so i thought this must be the problem so i ordered the kit of ebay,
i took the valve out today and found this!!!! :o :headbang:
thought i'd video it for you:-

NOT GOOD!!

just fitted the kit, but how do i know if it is working right and what issues would the valve being like have caused?

In all honesty Neil, if the engine is still running you have dodged the nuke I think. I assume it fell apart when you took it out, rather than coming out in that state ?

Yep still running mate! that is how it came out, i cant believe it, i watched the video on youtube on how to repair it and the guy was struggling to get it apart, this just fell to pieces :o

Even though it is in bits does it look like all the bits are there ? If so I'd think you're fine, but I am no expert !

From what I remember reading, if it disintegrates completely whilst fitted and running then you experience what is charmingly called a 'catastrophic failure' of the engine...

Maybe worth checking in the intake for debris?

Glad i changed it tonight then, my mrs wanted me to leave it till the weekend and i said knowing my luck it'll blow up tomorrow, hearing this it may have!! :o

I could be wrong, but I though the flap moves freely in the M54 engine when it is out the engine ? I know the N52 one doesn't move freely, but they changed the design and I think made it motorised ?

Ive just double checked and my one isnt supposed to be free moving, thanks for the advice though mate, always best to make sure

Hmmm after reading this I've also purchased the aluminium kit from Ebay.

I don't have any symptoms, but the £50 is worth it for peace of mind...

I've just popped mine out and checked it. The top pin is still pretty secure but the flap is moving freely meaning it is shot. I'll report back on the difference the kit makes when I get it fitted :)

This is the type of kit you'll need - check the model though

I offered £45 a couple of months back & was accepted, so maybe start at £40

What year did they change the design?

When they introduced the N52 engine - so on facelifts. I checked mine and it was obvious they'd improved it - pics and 'how to' of when I did it are in the engine how-to section

My M54 (on an Aug 05 plate) has a vacuumpump, so there is resistance on my pre facelift
