Exterior trim & rubber seals etc

Righto, so what is best to remove the dried on polish and wax from the exterior trim? Also, what is the best product(s) for bringing the seals and trim back to their original glory!?
 
I use General Motor's AC Delco Silicone Emulsion with great results. Part no. 10953014 no greasy finish, long lasting, very natural looking, same as they use at the factory...and cheap to buy :thumbsup:
 
Not sure about cleaning up the exterior trim, but for the rubber seals I use einszett Gummi Pflege

One thing to note regarding silicone on rubber (I realise this is their marketing, but have heard similar before):
"But even more than this, Einszett Gummi Pflege Stift contains no silicone. Why is this important? Because many treatments for rubber do include silicone, which is great at making rubber look good - for a while, but not so good when it comes to dust and dirt. Silicone acts like a magnet, attracting dust and drying out the rubber. Gummi Pflege gives rubber a finish that will not attract dust, and will help to keep rubber looking good for longer as well as remaining supple for longer."

I have used it on some of the external dark plastic and it's brought it up very nicely.
 
I've also read many times that using a silicone based treatment tends to "dry up" the rubber in the long run.
 
Right guys, so GM engineers don't know sh... about what they're doing. It's petroleum based silicone that isn't good, which silicone emulsion doesn't have any of, so perhaps some homework on the matter would be best before bringing forward such comments. BTW, most OEM rubber seal suppliers use this same base stuff. :wink:

Easy there!

Couple things, firstly as you didn't make it clear this was for rubber I assumed this was a product for exterior trim - I didn't think GM would be using something damaging. Secondly, I did say that the statement was from Einszett's marketing and when rubber / silicone has been mentioned on here before nothing has ever been mentioned about silicone emulsion... that said, good info :thumbsup:

Not sure if we can buy that product in the UK.

Don't take it to heart dude. We can't get that stuff anywhere over here! :?
 
I think you will find regradless of blurb on packagning, majority of products have some form of silicone in them along he line.
Whetehr it be good or bad silicones im not sure of but if in doubt, linseed oil and buff it up or clean with all purpose cleaner and do what i do and apply some carnauba wax to them and buff them up.
Keeps the window seals etc looking matt/neutral and looking good.
Look into products more and you will find that friendly manufacturers such as zymol, swissvax and a whole load more all have silicones in there waxes :thumbsup:
 
I agree with scottbt, a lot of trim gells and alike will just mask the problem. Bit a of APC and hard work is what needed :thumbsup:

Einszett Gummi Pflege and Aerospace Protectant 303 are both good products. I like the clean and non-greasy/shiney look and both these products do just that.
 
Applied some Gummi for the first time and I have to say I am well impressed the seals both look and more importantly feel like new. Great product tip!

Use this to - keeps the bits looking good and reduces squeeks from the trim against other vehicle surfaces (doors, roof etc).
 
Where do you get your Einszett Gummi Pflege from lads ?
From the main Einszett site or do you know of a cheaper / better source ?
