Hi chaps,
Well, my drivers door handle has been playing up for a while, i.e. needing a good tug to open the door and I actually think it's given me tennis elbow.
Anyway, it all went tits up on Friday when I hopped out of my car to open a gate, left the car running and shut the door. Passenger side was locked.
I couldn't get back into the car as when I pulled the handle it finally gave up the ghost and it felt to me like something snapped or came apart within the handle itself, or possibly the cable.
Door still opens from the interior handle but with the passenger door being locked, my car was then stuck in the middle of a road, engine running, lights on, stereo playing to itself, causing a rather large tailback. It was there for the best part of 2 hours while I used a payphone and had someone bring out the spare key!
I went to my local dealer who said the only way to be sure what was broken, was to book it in and have them look at it, at £x amount per hour in labour i would prefer to check it out myself.
Has anyone had this happen to them? I've read on the forums of both handles interior and exterior not working but not just one? Perhaps I'm not utilising the search function properly?
My local parts department gave me a diagram and suggested it could be that the cable running from handle to latch has snapped, stretched or become detached but I'm not sure which part to purchase.
I have a pal who works for Auto Windscreens who has the tools to strip the door but I don't want to waste his time without having the part in which to fix it if at all possible. I'd rather he stripped it and helped me fit the part
At the moment, rather than climbing over and leaving knee prints in the leather I am using the key to drop the side window and reaching in to open the door.
Any ideas?
