Exterior Chrome

Does anyone have any suggestions for cleaning exterior chrome? It’s not for the Zed but I’ve given the XC60 it’s first proper clean since I bought it and close up the chrome window surrounds and lower side trims are all scarmy and dull, possibly old wax deposits.

A dedicated chrome cleaner will do the job, but if you want to get rid of old wax products over the whole car and prepare for fresh new products, then 'Autosmart Tardis' or 'Bilt Hamber Surfex HD' will remove all contamination.

I had some chrome trim on a 1 series coupe round the windows which wouldn't clean up with any of my regular products (shampoo, tar remover, apc etc) so I just polished it up with some ssr 2.5 and finished with ssr 1 (any equivalent polish will do).

Came up mint, protected it with bilts double speed wax after.

A lot of 'chrome' trim on modern cars is actually anodised aluminium which oxidizes, weathers or gets badly marked by alkaline detergents such as TFR. Any amount of polishing will only improve it marginally :( The amount of trims that were replaced under warranty when I worked for Halliwell Jones BMW group was just mind boggling ! :o
