Extended Warranty

Hi, can anyone recommend an extended warranty company? As my Zed is now getting older, I think it would be wise to get some warranty in case dearer items or common faults start occurring. Thanks...

I extended my AUC warranty, which I think is underwritten by Mondial - so Mondial have a good reputation! My previous Z had RAC warranty which wasn't too badly priced, and they paid out for a few things with zero hassle for the previous owner.

Whether it is worth getting a warranty at all opens a huge can of worms :icb:

I would get the magnifying glass out mate and read the small print if you make a choice. A lot of these warranties are not worth the paper their written on.

Fell for this in the past. :(

This.

What are your concerns?
Is the car a daily driver?
Are you any good with spanners?
Would you be better off putting £50 per month away just in case and forgetting the warranty?

Think about it hard, it could be a warranty is good for what you want, but remember as a rule of thumb there is normally only one winner.

To offer the other side of the fence view....a warranty is great peace of mind of you plan to drive the car for fun (somewhat hard) and not worry one little bit should the engine/gearbox goes bang. Also, depends on how much your car is really worth...if it's a early Z is it really worth insuring a £5k car for £800 a year?

I've had about £8k worth of warranty work done on my MC this last 6 months.

If you get Rac breakdown, you can get a breakdown warranty for £60.

Gives you 5 claims a year up to £750 each time and quite a bit is covered.

I claimed on a rear spring on my Z4 and a turbo pipe on my Xc90 in the last 2 years. I also use Warranty Direct for my vans and they have been very fair over the years. They paid out £3,000 last year.
Under the fsa, warranty companies can't wriggle out of claims if it's covered in the terms like they did years ago.

As with all warranties be it BMW provided or from elsewhere, they ALL insist that the car has been maintained within manufacturer spec. It doesn't have to have been serviced by BMW but it must be serviced by a VAT registered garage and had the oil and brake fluid changed at right intervals, inspection I and II carried out as expected. Without this, any warranty won't be worth the money.
