Extended Warranty

Yours has a problem steering though, it can only do left turns :poke:

Do BMW contact you directly when you rcar is coming out of warranty or is it a case of getting in touch with them? Mine is on AUC till mid Dec.

I never got any call when my warranty was about to expire, nothing, nada.

BMW have always sent me a warranty reminder letter with a reference number to use on their website. This gives a personalised quote with varying levels of cover. Unlike gannet I paid the ridiculous amount for a no excess warranty and so far feel quite at ease with my choice given the work, both diagnostic and actual, that I've had carried out so far. The peace of mind in having the warranty is worth having for me although as the value of the car continues to decrease then I'll keep reviewing it's worth. There is no way that I'll pay the price for the warranty if I've still got the car when it's over 60,000 miles.

However much our cars depreciate in value the cost of replacing a major component will remain the same or increase. I pay £56 for peace of mind. I know if the diff or gearbox go west I'll only have to find £250. Once the car is worth less than £10,000 I would question the worth of the warranty but even then an engine failure means finding £5-6K for a second hand replacement and fitting by an indie.

Aye, but if you never took the extended warranty in the first place you might have saved £5k by then :). THink second hand S54's can be had for less than that figure. Most likely a well maintained S54 will easily go to 200k miles.

Having got the bmw comprehensice extended warranty, and had problems with contractual coverage (see my post on z4m engine mount has gone http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=22700&view=previous) I'd still get a warranty but shop around for the best one available. BMW's warranty is with a third party (Mondial) anyway so having seen "the strings" I don't see any added value in buying the cover with "BMW" on it.
