Extended warranty .. Fresh quote

I know there are threads and threads of debate about this. I'm not really putting it up for debate, as I want to extend my AUC warranty for piece of mind, and keep the Assist cover as they are really decent (the courtesy car element is useful!). The old chestnut of putting the money away wouldn't work for me, I'd spend it.

So if anyone is interested ... £7 a month for breakdown cover / Assist.

Then the warranty, with my car just under 50k miles:

0 excess @ £104pcm
100 excess @ 77pcm
150 excess @ £64pcm

To extend for me is a no brainer. The car this year has had over 2k paid for a cat replacement, and it is due in next week for a new window regulator and investigating a suspension kind if clunk/bang from the rear when the car is subjected to either a change in forwards/backwards or I accelerate hard.
 
Sounds like a good idea Tom, I am considering extending mine too! (warranty that is).
I thought you bought off forum member? (might have had warranty still remaining?).

Mine stayed at about £86/month all the way through - on a recurring monthly policy.

If I'd stopped and restarted the monthly policy then I would have been looking at £200/month for the same cover.

If I'd been on the annual policy then the renewals were going up by about 20% per year (based on me being curious and doing an online quote each year).

Overall I had about £20k out of them and paid out about £5k in premiums - a no brainer for a high use car.
 
Is it worth paying £40 a month to insure £150 though? 4 months no claim and your excess has been paid for by the savings.

I'd also think that I enjoy/drive the car differently with a decent warranty on it as well....far less worried about things going bang.
 
Cheapest I can get for a lapsed warranty is £102 per month.

That is comprehensive with emergency cover and £250 excess.

Not sure I'd need comprehensive though. I'd have to look into the differences.
 
The quotes stand by OP are driveline only...surely...??

I was quoted the following for my 30000 mile roadster

I'm not sure guys. This is what they have confirmed over the phone. This is to extend an existing policy though, not to join the scheme. I'm not sure the above were to join or to extend from the AUC.
 
I took out the Extended BMW warranty on my 5 series last Nov @ £56/month but I think it has large x/s (£1000 or £500)

I'm now talking to "Warranty Direct" who have quoted me £41/month with a £50 x/s and seems to cover a lot more ( inc labour upto £200/hr) and includes any items that are found at servicing, (inc wearables) that should not have failed given your current mileage. (for example, not brake pads, but a bearing going at 30,000 would be )

There is also a 'Lite' cover for £135.pa. which covers Engine , Ignition, Electrical ( with a £50x/s)
The only snag with this cover is that you have to be broken down at the roadside and be recovered, but if AA cover comes with your motor insurance anyway , than that isn't a problem. (Good backup for an older Zed, especially if you can break down at a convenient time near home, if you know what I mean ...)

I'm looking to cancel my £56/mth BMW warranty on the 5 Series, take out the £41/mth, then spend the difference on the Z4 at £135pa so both cars are covered.

Worth a look I reckon !
 
I agree you can probably find it cheaper but what I have found with these Warranty Direct / WMS types is they will only pay out if there is a failure.

E.g if the Vanos started to sound rough I dont think they would pay for a replacement until it failed. By that time your engine could be shot.
 
If it's driveline only, it's a fairly useless policy, as there is a maximum claim in there which isn't enough to cover a new engine!
 
WD also deducts a mileage (10% per 10k over 60k I think), so not sure what your mileage is. They did not pay for the BMW required diagnoses (about £150), they do not pay for the removal of parts to get to the failed part.

For my old X5, my £600 bill for the failed glow plug control module, they paid about £150 in the end as they did not pay:

- £50 excess
- Diagnoses at £150
- Removal of manifold to get to the glow plug control unit
- 20% mileage reduction as it was at 70k


It more or less covered the premium I paid, but don't think it is a BMW warranty replacement (also had to pay the £600 in advance and claim the invoice from WD).
 
I thought mmm-five always said that, if you take it out from when the original warranty expires it never goes up, but if you take it out later it is a lot more.
 
Just to add in my experiences, having asked in a thread about extending the 6months VGS I've been given to 24 months with their top 5* warranty;

- will pay up to £50 per hour labour
- will only pay what they deem appropriate for parts
- will only pay for faulty part, not locally affected/advised parts
- 0 xs

With the above in mind, I'm sat in bmw Croydon with a broken rear spring, paying £350 ish (replace rear springs in pairs and adding potentially rubber seats if necessary), of which I'll be able to claim back £145 (one spring and half an hour labour ).

I'll let you guys decide whether this is worth the paper it's written on...!

Its only 45k on my 5 series, but he said "Consequential" parts and labour was covered. I'm also still only 3 years into my 5year Free servicing package, so that seemed to cover just about everything between the two policies..... I thought !
