Extended warranty and modifications

My M is currently unmolested and on the extended warranty.

I was considering a Gruppe M induction thingy but not sure what the deal is with the warranty - is the whole thing invalidated or just related components? My M is my daily hack so i'm not prepared to risk the warranty.

Given that most Ms have a warranty and lots of them are modified i'm guessing one of you has read and translated the small print in fine detail?

There will only be problems if the fault can be reasonably shown to have been caused in full or in part by the modified parts.

So, if you put a GruppeM on and the MAF throws a fit or you get engine management faults, then they might be reluctant to pay out.

However, if a wheel bearing fails they can't avoid (though they may try) paying out on that as there's no causal link to the modification - but if you put wheels & tyres on that are outside the manufacturer's spec you may have problems claiming for suspension failures.

If you remap a your car then it gets a bit more complicated, as they could claim that the extra 10-30bhp and 10-30lb/ft has taken it's toll on the engine/gearbox/diff and refuse/reduce payment for those parts.

I'd also recommend finding a friendly dealer - such as Murketts (if you're close enough).

i had warranty work done..... they all laughed out loud when they opened the bonnet :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:

they do all non engine and drivetrain related items :-)

Depending on how you stand morally on the issue, you could always swap the airbox back over to OEM before you brought it in for warranty work...

So if i fit the airbox they are likely to refuse claims on all engine/driveline stuff?
Only possibly on MAF damage, unless you've also remapped it, or they can see evidence of damage to the open filter which may have allowed debris into the engine.
