extend BMW warranty or 3rd party?

Just got a reminder letter from BMW that my AuC warranty runs out at the beginning of March. They summarised the price of extending the warranty which comes out at £427 including emergency service for a year for the comprehensive one (£322 for the driveline one)

So is it worth going for, and how do the different tiers compare? driveline says it covers engine, transmission, drivetrain so what else is there that the other tiers cover? And how does it compare to eg warranty direct?

its a 56 reg car, may move to indy servicing after this next one but not sure yet

1. When servicing your BMW, failure to comply with the service schedule recommended by BMW may invalidate this warranty. All service and warranty work must be carried out by an Authorised BMW Dealer or BMW Service Authorised Workshop using only Genuine BMW Parts.Your BMW Service Booklet should be stamped, dated and detailed with the correct mileage at the time of service by the servicing dealer.

I was under the impression that this was illegal to do so nowadays? As long as the servicing company uses genuine BMW parts then this should not have any detriment on the warranty. This was brought in to stop dealers taking the piss and monopolising the servicing costs and essentially charging what they want.

Surely they are not allowed to put this clause in?

The block exemption rule you're talking about only relates to the manufacturer's new car warranty (and AUC warranty in this case), as you were stuck with that warranty whether you agreed to the terms or not, and so was restricting your rights.

When you buy an aftermarket 'insured' warranty (which the Mondial-run, BMW one is), then you have the opportunity to shop around and settle on the package that meets your requirements, and you have ample opportunity to read the terms and conditions laid out in that policy.

If you choose to buy the one with clauses restricting where the vehicle can be serviced, then it's your own look-out and there's nothing the EU can do about that.

It's like buying car insurance that has a clause stating they will only provide a courtesy car if you use their approved repairer. If you take it to your preferred bodyshop then you can't expect a courtesy car from the insurance company.
 
I have nothing but good things to say about BMW guarantee but not really had much use of it (new spring and pdc sensor).

It's just easy...the lazy man's solution.

Pay monthly and it keeps on going for the same price up to 100,000 miles.
