Exploding paint can disaster

In the middle of a house renovation and the zed has been roped into a lot of load-lugging (bit too precious about the F10's beige interior, plus the boot isn't much bigger with all the hybrid unit).

Today I had the nightmare scenario of a 5l can of white emulsion popping open in the boot. Luckily most of the 2 litres or so that came out ended up on the removable bit over the battery and I've managed to clean that up reasonably well using a hose and brush and then putting it in the bath, but the carpets surrounding have also soaked up a fair bit of paint. I can't see any easy way to get these out of the car for a proper clean - am I missing something?

If the carpets can't come out of the car what would people think about taking the battery out and giving it a good scrub? Rinsing with plenty water gets the paint out well but I would really have to soak it.
