Exploding mirrors

Last week wife went out in z4 just getting dark when the o/s mirror flashed & exploded. Only thing I can explain is a electrical fault can any one explain wot happend and how much to repair.

Do you have auto dimming mirrors, if not I can only assume something shorted out the heating element.

I suppose exploding would keep the frost off, would get a bit expensive though!
Sounds bizarre, are you sure it wasn't struck by another car?

I had my passenger mirror drop out and smash into a zillion pieces when I slammed the drivers door. The worst thing was that two of the best looking girls at work were eyeing up the car as I pulled into work with the roof down and they fell about laughing when the mirror smashed... :roll:
