My request for feedback is just that for the title subject. Have you got driving / owner experience with a Civic 2008 CTDi 2.2 versus Golf 2007 FSI 1.6? Whether you've owned one of these or even both? I currently have the CIvic and for some reason am wondering if I might be more suited to a Golf FSI. I had a Golf FSI 1.6 petrol for a short couple of months last year and enjoyed the time I had (though it was short so I am wondering whether I am looking at it through rose-tinted spectacles). The Civic is a 2008 CTDi 2.2 Diesel. The economy on mid to long distance driving at motorway speeds is very good. I don't think the petrol would return such good economy. But it felt like the Golf petrol was easier to park? Let's have your opinion if you have experience of either car and even better, both.

Oh, another good thing, the tax on the Civic is lower - just renewed it and it's £125 a year. (Though up £5 since last year, pound pinching Government).

Honda Civic / for those over 64

Golf / for anyone else

its that simple to equate & i don,t care if the roadtax was free on the civic :o it would have to be
Had one as hire car for 2 weeks & it was tedious in every way

Also had a MK5 Golf for 9 months & it did everything we wanted including selling for same price as we paid

Get a Golf & put the Honda experience behind you

I used to have a Civic diesel CTDi 2.2, it must have been around 2008. I bought it specifically to cope with a period when I was doing a high daily commute (about 80 miles/day), with a reasonable amount of motorway. It returned about 52mpg and gave good performance especially in the mid range, like most diesels. It was extremely good for what I wanted at the time.

I px'd it after around 2 years for a 1.8 Civic petrol, not the same animal at all, dull and lifeless.

I cant comment on the Golf, never had one.
