Expansion tank?

Driving my car home after my MOT passed and the coolant light came on. I stopped and checked the level and the dipstick was out of sight.
Shot round to the garage to get some more coolant and filled it up with 0.75 ltrs.

Gingerly drove home and luckily temp stayed at mid point.
Checked level when I got home and still full.
There was some fluid at the top of the bottle, so rinsed off and left to cool.

It's probably time to replace the expansion tank, so where's the best place to buy one? Are pattern parts ok.

Also how much fluid do you lose when you take the bottle out?

Get a hella one from euro car parts or ebay cheap ones just crack again. You loose quite a bit of fluid when changing but it's fairly straightforward to bleed up

Hella all the way. I changed one for someone a few months back, he supplied the part himself, some no-name brand. A week later it was leaking, now replaced with a Hella one. Difference was less than £10..

I think the OP means the float for the coolant level - well I hope so!
 
Any recommendations for radiator hoses? All I can seem to find are Chinese crap or OEM options for the Z4, whereas the expansion tank, thermostat etc there's plenty of choices for.
 
I seem to be ticking off the standard faulty item now.
ABS motor last year, roof motor already in boot, and now the expansion tank.
I suppose it's the water pump next! Am I tempting fate?
