Expansion Tank install

Has anyone seen a write up for installation of the expansion tank near radiator for 2003 E85 Automatic? (some may know this as overflow tank)

1. You need to remove the top plastic panel which the expansion cap comes through.
2. if you are working from above only then best to remove radiator fan to give you room, there is a star bolt top left corner nearest the winscreen washer tank holding the fan in place. remove the 2 electrical connectors to the fan. Fan should now slide up.
3. remove top hose
4. remove hose halfway down.
5. remove hose at the bottom. all hoses are on spring clips.
6. there is a screw below the tank to the right, think its another star head.
7. think that's it should be able to slide expansion tank out.
8. I would recommend you check "O" rings in hoses as I replaced mine.
9. fit in reverse order, don't forget you will get a lot of water spillage unless you can catch the coolant.
10. once you have fitted it all back together, don't but large cover panel on until you have bleed the system, there is a plastic screw on top of the expansion tank, open that up and run the car till water comes out. tighten screw and you done. fit panel and finished.

note: "Slide" may be re-read as "hit out very hard from the bottom because it's somehow seized in there like a proper pig, but being careful to not then catch a flying expansion tank on your chin when it is 'freed' from its mount..."

Hit is the correct word doing mine at the mo.i couldnt budge it so took the carrier off the to make it easier. However we it came off there is a valve in the larger locator an yep its broke £80 looked at the rad an that looked dodgy so I got a new one.got top an bottom hoses too £41 each .in bits at mo coz am laid up wi a chest infection.
Cost rad £72. expansion tank £50. Coolant £12. Europarts.
Hoses and valve bmw £162 +vat. So be careful removing the expansion tank.

Thanks Mac27040 very helpful.
Yeah i have also heard that it needs to be hit from the bottom so it will come off. Can you do that when you are only working from above?
