EXO Paint Treatment

Took the opportunity to have the M Exo'd with a little paint correction detail over the bank holiday weekend. No more waxing just jet wash n go!

The pictures don't quite show how hydrophobic the paintwork is now, but dirt is just held on the surface and you simply rinse off.

Looks to be a very nice job, well done. Not heard of this, going to do some research

Would be interested to hear more about the treatment, who does it and what it costs.
Photos look stunning!

It's a friend of mine who is a part time pro detailer that did the work for me. He lightly machine cut and polished the paint before applying the Exo. It goes on in gel form and then is wiped off. Its not the easiest to apply for the uninitiated by all accounts. It should last a year and is maintained by jet washing, two bucket wash technique and drying with something like Megs Last Touch.

I paid mates rates but I think its product plus a days work for the treatment which is about £300-400.

yep that looks pretty awesome to me. I spent 12 hrs or thereabouts on Monday making my car look like that...

Looks very impressive, picture 6 is my favourite.
Must admit I have never heard of this treatment method before.

I got something similar done to mine (22PLE Glass Coating) on the basis that mine was a daily driver, left in car parks after being covered in commuting grime for days, with only a weekly/fortnightly wash.

I didn't do it to make the car look better, but just to give the car a bit more protection.

For 3 months it looked great - considering it was applied in winter and then driven 6000 miles - and only required a sno-foam, rinse and light shampoo. After that it seemed to stop delivering and I'd have to spend more time removing road film than before, which looked like the car had lost it's protection.

I guess all these products are fine for garage queens, or where the 'daily driver' description actually means only taking it out for 10 minutes when it's warm & dry, but seemed to be pointless for a proper daily driver that gets covered in grime and left dirty for days.

I did my car with the EXO treatment this past weekend. It is really easy. It is a clear liquid, not a gel. It is important to properly prep the surface. First I clayed the car. Then I polished it with a random orbital polisher to remove any wax. Then I rubbed it down with 1 part isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol) to 2 parts water to remove any residue. All that prep is the difficult part!
Applying the EXO is simply a matter of putting a few drops on the microfibre applicator and rubbing down a small area at a time (like 1/4 of the bonnet). No pressure needed - just rub very lightly. Then wipe with a microfibre towel to remove any residue and polish with a different microfibre towel (two different colored towels are a suggested). The polishing is also very easy - not like removing wax residue. Do it out of the sun and don't let it get wet for at least a few hours.
You can Google Gtechniq EXO. They have instructions and a video. This is my first application. It did it on my daily driver minivan so I can give it a good test for durability. I will post back later this year with results. I bought the 50ml bottle for $60 US from a local detailing shop. I used half the bottle but the minivan has a a lot of surface area.

I own an '06 M Roadster. I applied a polymer coating this Spring before I heard of EXO. It's a garage queen so it will last at least a year. As I stated, I did the minivan to test the durability. After all, paint is paint.

Such a shame this is for ///M's only, may have been interested otherwise :poke:

Hehe, yeah must be for Ms. Wouldn't be in the section of the forum otherwise ;)
