I'm the proud owner of a 2007 e85 2litre which I love to bits but every now and then she really bugs me by throwing up the EML with the code P0420 Catalyst System Efficency Below Threshold Bank 1 which I erase with my cheapo code reader and carry on This is now becoming more regular and happens anywhere between 9 and 90 miles for no apparent reason. She does not experience any loss of power or juddering and I still get around 36/39mpg. A mate who has a posh code reader came and plugged it in and got the stored code 29F4 DME: Catalytic Converter Conversion
All this is happening after giving her several Italian Tune ups and a dose of Cataclean
My dilemma is
1. I cant afford a new Cat
2 I can afford a preowned Cat
So do I just keep on using my cheapo code reader to erase the code and put up with the Bl***dy light coming on or do I bite the bullet and buy a preowned cat and pay my very good Indy Garage to fit it

Any comments would be appreciated

My wife ran a car with a eml light on for years (result of a non standard cat) as long as that's the only stored code, I'd be tempted to ignore it /keep resetting the code. As long as its running fine other than that, and there isn't anything else going on.

Does it /would it pass an mot? I presume you'd clear the code before a mot test?

Thanks for your reply THe car passes the MOT with no advisories The last examiner told me that I could breath in the exhaust fumes with no problem

Could be a dodgy oxygen sensor. A good code reader should be able to read how each sensor is performing.
