Hi this topic has been brought up a few times .. The valve is operated by a vacuum, under normal driving it will remain closed, but when the engine is under load like when you put your foot down the valve will open . What a lot of people on here me included have disconnected the vacuum hose while the valve is in the open position and plugged both ends. Thus meaning you get a better deeper note to the exhaust all the time not just under load
